Cops: Fought, spit on police
Tuesday, February 17, 2009
A Jersey City man spit at a police officers from the back seat of a police car after being arrested at the Salem Lafayette Apartments early Sunday after a street fight, officials said.
Kyle J. Howard, 21, of Grand Street at Communipaw Avenue, was arrested at 1:43 a.m. and charged with throwing bodily fluids at a law enforcement officer, aggravated assault on a police officer, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct, reports said.
Responding to the complex at Martin Luther King Drive and Union Street, officers found a group of 10 people arguing, reports said.
When the gathering turned into a fight, officers broke it up and told everyone to move along, reports said.
But instead of leaving, Howard ran toward another group and argued with them, reports said.
Told again to leave the scene, Howard refused and was handcuffed by officers after a struggle, reports said.
On the way to the West District Station Howard managed to spit on a officer's shoulder through the cruiser's cage, reports said.
Once out of the car at the police station, Howard laid down in the middle of Communipaw Avenue and the officers had to lift him into the station, reports said.
In the holding cell, Howard grabbed an officer and tried to drag him closer, but the cops pushed Howard off and left the cell, officials said.
