Son, 15, charged with beating his father, 71, into critical condition

A 71-year-old Jersey City man was clinging to life last night at the Jersey City Medical Center, the result of a beating he suffered at the hands of his 15-year-old son, according to police reports.

The 15-year-old has been charged with aggravated assault, reports said.

The father was in critical condition last night, said John McKeegan, a spokesman for the hospital. The victim is being kept alive with a breathing machine and is in the intensive care unit, reports said. Police were called to a report of a domestic violence incident at a second floor apartment at Monticello and Storms avenues, at around 5:30 a.m., police said.

When they arrived the victim had already been rushed by ambulance to the Jersey City Medical Center, reports said.

The victim suffered extreme bruising to his head and body, reports said.

It is still to be determined if the victim was punched and/or kicked, or if a weapon was involved, reports said.

Police said they have responded to domestic violence incidents at the apartment before involving the same residents.

The suspect was remanded in Hudson County's Youth House in Secaucus, pending further investigation, officials said.
