The dilemma for politicians !

Let me see...allowing children and adults to be exposed to toxic fumes that in-return makes big $'s for the Health industry or enforcing regulations mandated on a national, state and local level which could cause problems for the oil industry ?

Answer - Do nothing and everyone wins !

Neighborhoods within two blocks of gas stations are exposed to benzene levels that increase the risk for leukemia, a cancer of the blood-making organs. http://www.oregontoxics.org/benzene/benzene.html From reading wiki and other things on the web -- it is clear that Benzene can come from gas stations and right around the corner from this school is this an older gas station. Does the EPA, DEP or Jersey City really check out older gas stations? I've read that a lot of these out-of-date gas stations cause real health problems from non fuel chemical fumes released when filling their of older leaky tanks.

Anyone know were the Benzene is coming from?

Is this a known problem in this area?

Could it be a false reading?

USA TODAY took "snapshot" air samples outside 95 schools. The highest readings for toxic chemicals appeared near seven schools. There, the concentrations of chemicals were high enough that they could cause serious illnesses or increase the risk of cancer if people were exposed to those levels for a long time.
