Talk about stretching the truth. Only 7 sex offenders in Downtown? Yes Megan's List only has about 7 from Downtown on there site, but only 141 out of 701 are even on the site and at least 30 of the 141 dont have an address listed on the site. So there are are about 600 sex offenders that we dont know where they live. Your telling me of 600 none of them are from Downtown?

Report: Hudson ranks sixth in state in number of sex offenders

by Paul Koepp/The Jersey Journal
Friday October 31, 2008, 11:29 AM

With 701 sex offenders registered under Megan's Law, Hudson County ranks sixth in the state for the number of registrants, according to a report released by the state Administrative Office of the Courts.

Essex County has the most registrants with 1,540, while Hunterdon County has the least with 89.

The law, enacted in 1994, requires certain convicted sex offenders to register with law enforcement and provides for community notification based upon the degree of risk the offender poses.

The registrant must provide a wide range of personal information and details about the crime that required the registration. A registrant can apply to be removed from the list 15 years after conviction or release from a correctional facility.

As of July 1, the State Police reported that 12,134 persons have registered, with about 50 being added statewide each month.

Of Hudson's 701 offenders, 182 are considered a low risk of re-offense, 324 are a medium risk and 28 are high risk, according to the report. Also, 141 are listed on the state's Sex Offender Internet Registry.
