I can highly recommend Bob?s Auto Glass at 749 Communipaw Ave. 201 333-2931.
Fast service, reasonable prices, and he does carry new and used windshields. Unfortunatly, we had to use him a number of times when we first moved here and had a rash of periodic car break-ins.

In the Ironbound section of Newark (at the end of Ferry St & 1&9) are few junkyards...I've gone there many times to get parts.

No wonder I thought it would make an interesting film -- I forgot that I already have "Chop Shop" in my Netflix Que:
Alejandro, a tough and ambitious Latino street orphan on the verge of adolescence, lives and works in an auto-body repair shop in a sprawling junkyard on the outskirts of Queens, New York. In this chaotic world of adults, young Alejandro struggles to make a better life for himself and his 16-year-old sister, Isamar. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0990404/externalreviews

I've been out there in Queens myself - it feels like Mad Max Country -- You could film a great doc film out there.
I find that new is always best for windshields - they are all pretty cheap and windshields get a fine sand blasting over time. The biggest company seems like the cheapest and they will come to you for free and do it on the street or where you work. http://www.safelite.com I also did have a guy here in Jersey City right off JFK Blvd / right across from the Rite Aid -- change out a broken windshield for me - he was good, fast and cheap - the place was a dump. I forget who he was and even how I found him. Quote:

I used to go the the junkyard in Hoboken and got a windshield installed there once. They have been gentrified out of existance though for something far more useful to me, more condos. There are still some auto wreckers left in the county and many do glass installations. Check the yellow pages for auto wreckers.

I always used to go to Liberty Ave in Jamaica Queens for glass, there are lots of shops and guys on the street trying to steer you in. Is there anyplace comparable in Newark or nearby to save me the shlep for a new windshield?
