Don't these come from the state? My landlord had to make some improvements and asked me once to wait to show the inspector the chnages. I think its the dept of community affairs.

How do I get in touch with the building department. The renovation was done in the late 80's I believe.

You get your certificate of occupancy from the building department. I'm assuming you've already had your fire inspections completed. You could have the paint tested, but depending on if it was a gut renovation, you should have paperwork on the type of paint used to show them there was no lead paint used. Without more info, this is a difficult question to answer. C/O's typically come after a long series of inspections, rather than one. Hope this was helpful!

We recently had our building inspected and the inspector told me that I needed proof that the building doesn't have lead paint.

To avoid the lead fee, I am trying to figure out who to get the CO from. I called a housing number from the jersey city website and they transfered me to someone's voicemail. I left a detailed message but never got a call back.

So I'm not sure I am calling the right place, anyone know who to contact or where I go in person?
