This kind of damage happens constantly in Hamilton Park. It is caused, in HP, by the Parks Dept. driving there trucks all over the place. The cops always make an effort to stay on the blacktop but the Parks guys are always rutting up the place. They also drive way too fast in an area so populated by kids.

Janedoe- Was there an incident, were they chasing someone, looking for someone, etc or was it just a "casual" short cut? . If there was a reason they had to do this, that's fine (IMO), but you say that you witnessed this over the past few months.

I think the East Captain should know about this.

Thanks for bringing this to everyone's attention. I've just copied your posting and sent an email to both Councilman Steven Fulop and to Captain Brian McDonough, Commander of the East District (zones 1-6 all of downtown JC) to ask that JC patrol cars cease driving through this park and that the parks dept. attend to what you correctly point out is a wasteful destruction of Jersey City's parks property.

Everyone should also call and email both Fulop and McDonough at this contact info asking the same:

Councilman Steven Fulop

Althea Bernheim, Aide

Captain McDonough, East District Commander &
PO Dina Reilly, East District Community Relations Officer

You'll see the lawn damage below - this is the greenspace surrounding the basketball court right along the 9th street border of the Robert Clemente sports complex. Lots of people are up there daily, walking their dogs, playing in the court or fields, or simply taking a stroll. There's precious little greenspace in Jersey City as you know - and tax-payer dollars are going to the Parks department to maintain the grass here. For some reason JC patrol cars have started over the last 3 months or so to drive thru the park on the asphalt path on the west side of the park, and then drive across the grass to get to 9th street - I've witnessed this personally. You'll also see tracks between the basketball court and the baseball field. This is just making a total mess of the park, as you can see. Sad to pay tax money to one dept to maintain the grounds, and while another tax-payer funded organization carelessly wrecks it. Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket
