Portion of Seventh Street to remain closed at least through tomorrow

Seventh Street between Grove and Erie streets in Downtown Jersey City will remain closed to traffic today and into tomorrow as a problem with a sewer line is investigated and fixed, officials say.
The East District Police Station, 207 Seventh St., will remain open and everyone who lives on the block can stay in their homes, Police Lt. Edgar Martinez said.
Jersey City Municipal Utility Authority trucks are on the scene, trying to determine if the length of sewer line is clogged or if it has collapsed. Workers are bypassing the section of problem line, JCMUA Assistant Engineer Rich Haytas said, so everyone's plumbing should work.
Crews responded after toilets in the police station overflowed this morning, Haytas said.
The line, which is made of brick, is 60 to 100 years old.
