Cops arrested a Bayonne man after they caught him coming back from Jersey City with enough cocaine to warrant drug distribution charges, police said yesterday.
Narcotics detectives followed 15th Street resident Kieran Walsh, 49, as he drove into Jersey City from a Bayonne tavern after informants had told them he took trips into the city to buy cocaine, police said.
Detectives watched Walsh park near the corner of Seaview and Kennedy Boulevard in Jersey City, turn off his headlights, and make a business deal with someone who quickly jumped into and out of his car, police said. Police said detectives followed Walsh back to Bayonne after the deal.
Police said detectives stopped Walsh on East 51st Street after he nearly hit several parked cars. Police said Walsh had the smell of booze on his breath and was unsteady on his feet when he got out of the car.
He told detectives he had just picked up a prescription for his wife, police said. According to police, detectives found two bags of suspected cocaine in Walsh's car. He was arrested and charged with distribution of drugs and with driving while intoxicated, police said.
