Yeah. . . never discount the garbage man inconvenience factor either. The woman this morning told me not to put out an upholstered chair on a rainy night because the garbage men will not take it if it's soaked.

Hi. I believe there is a weight limit per bag/can, so your best bet is to use several lighterweight bags. Put the bags at the bottom of the can or barrel and your usual garbage on top.

That should work.

Call (201) 432 4645 x 600. It's the Jersey City Incinerator Authority and they should be able to tell you what you can throw away and what you can't.

I actually called this number this morning and the woman was quite helpful.

EDIT: This is the same telephone number to hear if street cleaning is suspended. use X675 instead.

hi everyone,

our garbage men, on the night shift, for some reason have refused to take a few bags of weeds/dirt/rocks that i had bagged and left on the street and in our garbage can.

anyone know if there are any regulations about this? am i in the wrong?

i've put out all sorts of stuff before - dirt, rocks, cement, sticks, trash, etc - and they've always taken it... not to mention some of the crazy stuff the neighbors put out with their illegal renovations....

anyhoo - any advice or knowledge?
