Before I moved to JC my favorite place is

S & S Auto Inc
1620 Paterson Plank Rd
Secaucus, NJ 07094
(201) 601-5830

The mechanics there are very honest. I asked them to change air filter, they checked it and told me it's all right and didn't need changing (and didn't charge me for checking). My muffler got a problem last year (after I moved to JC): those bastards at Tuffy wanted to charge me over $700. I went to S & S and got it fixed for a little over $200. They price things very reasonably. There's a NJT bus #190 right in front of their store which can take you to the city or you can change to #2 at Secaucus Plaza to Journal Sq.

In JC my favorite guy now is Mike at Alpha Omega in Journal Sq. You can find a lot of good reviews about him at www.cartalk.com. I got his name from a JCLister's post. He closed his shop recently for personal reasons (he'll be back later) and recommended to me his friend (I forgot the name, maybe Al?)

Tonnelle Auto Repair LLC
201-963-5831 ? 505 Tonnele Ave, Jersey City,NJ

Since it's not as easy to take a bus there to the city I didn't give it a try, but brought my car to S & S again this year for regular maintenance.

I love Summit Auto!! I didn't think there were any good, honest mechanics left in the world, but these guys are top notch!

I've used Tune & Tire on Communipaw a few times for my Beemer, they were good and fair with the charges.

B&B on Bright Street between Grove and Barrow. Ron is very good, honest and reasonable. I've known him for over four years and I've never had a problem.

I second Althea on the Summitt Auto recommendation.

They've always come through for me and any friends I steered their way.

I should add that he always goes out of his way to work with my schedule and has even parked my car back in my driveway, but I am only three blocks from him.

He also gives me a wide variety of advice, such as knowing when and what time of extended warranties to buy, etc., etc. I just can't say enough about how much I trust this mechanic.

I've used Sernios on Communipaw, they do good work and are honest, not the cheapest but they won't cheat you and they won't charge for an estimate.

Anyone know of a reputable auto repair shop? I have a 2005 Subaru Outback -- am off warranty and don't want to pay DiFeo $60 to change a headlight bulb...
