It became a plaza for the area, no other square really downtown,
except in front of city hall.
very central and very cool.

no, not an accident, we had promoted closing that piece of Newark Ave from the start. the "remembrance" of Newark Ave is delineated by the pavers.

the design provided the flat plaza, but permitted continued use during specific hours. the compromise to continue partial use, allowed support to build (notably among the merchants) for eventual closure.

this is great recognition for a great project, clearly a game changer for Jersey City.

from what started with Sunday morning emails and inspired by IlCampo in Siena, an example of what can happen when government opens up and works with the community.

thank you Harsimus Cove member Annie Kessler who relentlessly led this project to conclusion including its thorough maintenance agreement with Grove Pointe (not consistently enforced), volunteer professionals from the downtown neighborhood associations, our city planner Bob Cotter and his staff, Jeff Persky of Schenkman/ Kushner developer of Grove Pointe and former Ward E councilman, E. Junior Maldonado who was rock solid behind the community efforts.

an example why it should not be us against them.

funny things is that the grove street plaza is almost an accident. originally, the buses were supposed to head west along avenue. I'm glad that common sense prevailed.

What do you mean "almost" it was an accident.
