The Hudson County sheriff's officer charged with drunk driving in New York this past weekend had been on modified duty since a 2005 incident in which she was charged with ramming a man's car with hers during a drunken temper tantrum, officials said.

Officer Aleisha Cruz, 30, of Kearny, was charged with driving while intoxicated on Sunday at 4:15 a.m. at 42nd Street and Dyer Avenue in Manhattan, officials said.

Port Authority police arrested her after she refused to take a Breathalyzer test in the aftermath of a crash, officials said.

This is Cruz's latest tiff with law enforcement.

On March 16, 2006, she pleaded guilty to drunk driving and refusing to take a Breathalyzer test in connection with an incident in July 2005 in Lyndhurst, officials said.

In that incident, Cruz became enraged when her date told her he wasn't going to spend the night with her and she repeatedly drove her 2005 Ford Explorer into his 2003 Toyota Tercel, cops said.

When he got out of the car to calm her down, she struck him with her car, but he wasn't seriously injured, police said.

Criminal charges of aggravated assault and assault with an automobile were filed against her, but she entered a pre-trial intervention program and the charges were to be dropped if she stayed out of trouble for 18 months, officials said at the time.

Since then, Cruz has been unable to carry a gun based on an order by the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office. Information on the outcome of PTI was not available yesterday.

The Hudson County Sheriff's Office has been notified about Cruz's New York crash, but the department has not yet received official reports, a spokesman said. When documents are provided, they will be reviewed by the sheriff and the county Law Department, officials said. No administrative action has been taken against Cruz.
