'Parole violator' is seized
Friday, August 15, 2008 By CHARLES HACK JOURNAL STAFF WRITER A Jersey City Incinerator Authority laborer was arrested Wednesday by the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force and charged with violating his parole, authorities said. Bruce Wells, 47, hired through a city employment program, fled when he saw law enforcement vehicles arrive at the JCIA compound on Route 440 at 11:10 a.m., authorities said. Wells took off on Route 440, but didn't get far. He was arrested behind a Pizza Hut, authorities said. Wells was sentenced to one year in prison and three years probation in May 2006 for conspiracy to distribute narcotics, officials said. He failed to report to his parole officer four times this year, said U.S. Marshal for New Jersey James Plousis. Oren Dabney, executive director of the Incinerator Authority, said Wells is employed with the Incinerator Authority through the "Shape Up" work program, where workers earn $7 an hour. Dabney said that background checks are made for outstanding warrants, and none showed on his record when he was hired.
