the last thing JSQ needs is to lose one of its very few good restaurants. Theres far too many fast food joints, and as much as I love Indian, there needs to be a little variety. I hope someone has the nerve to try something new in the hood as new development comes in.

Try Abbondanza downtown--it's more homestyle than Joe & Rita's which could never hold a candle to IlVento's on West Side Avenue.

OK, now you've got me regretting not going there! That's a dish I often forget how much I love when it comes to ordering, it seems so unsexy compared to a seafood fra diavolo or cutlet.

Linguine with white clam sauce is my yardstick when it comes to italian food.

You still have time until end of Jan...

Very friendly service, they treat you like family. Linguine with white clam sauce to die for. Rita and Joe's will be missed.

Never ate there, but got dubious about these old school Southern Italian places after an unpleasant experience years ago at the unlamented Casa Dante. Service was rude and the food unremarkable. Laicos was OK, but not mind blowing.

Having grown up in Marion, I have many good memories of this place with many people gone far too soon. I'll definitely be stopping down one last time before they close.

As originally reported by Jersey City Eats, Jersey City staple Rita & Joe's is set to close at the end of this month. Rita & Joe's storied 32-year history includes scenes from The Sopranos being filmed there, as well as landing a top 5 spot on Eater's list of 10 Old-Fashioned Italian-American Restaurants in New York and Jersey City. The spot, located at 142 Broadway, was opened in 1985 by husband and wife Rita and Giuseppe "Joe" Pane, but recently has been run by their daughter-in-law Isabel. You can read the full statement from Isabel below:
