You might be able to find your property on maps like this one from 1928:

When we bought our circa 1840's house in the Heights, I went to the tax assessor's office and got a copy of a photo taken in the 1930's for a WPA project. I believe they photographed all the houses in the city. I planted a tree just like the one in the photo - still there today! It was a really cool look back. You may want to try the historical records found at the JC library in downtown, too.

Historical Property Records?

Has anyone delved into researching their house going back in time? I have a circa-1900 townhouse that I'm just curious to know the history. The online property tax resources I've found only go back 10 years or so. Is there a Hudson County/Jersey City property records office that can be visited to pull records? Any advice on how to go about it?
