Train to Long Beach in Long Island is under an hour, direct from Penn Station. Just another option. Ferry to Sandy Hook is also a great option.

There's also the Seastreak, although you've got to go into Manhattan to pick it up, it's a nice ride. It used to also pick up in LSP, but no more.

thanks for the advice. i will check this info out. i had no clue that nj transit had buses to the shore. most of the nj trains are super slow imo. much slower than the lirr

ummmm have you heard of this place called Journal Square? There are two buses that go to the shore, I know the # 67 goes out there and you can also get a train from Hoboken.

i am really wanting to not have to drive to the beach. some smart entrepreneur should start a beach bus service to the jersey shore or someplace else nearby that is nice.
