I have Aetna and it's been fine, but Aetna (like all big insurers) has a million and one different plans. You have to look at which doctors are covered under a specific type of plan, like a PPO, etc. Most of our doctors are in Bergen County and are covered, as is our dentist in Jersey City and all optometrists in the area.

When you're talking about the big carriers (Aetna, CIGNA, United, BCBS) there is no "good" or "bad" when it comes to provider networks - it's which one suits you best. Go to each of their websites and you can look up providers you're interested in.

Recently Aetna have been atrocious. This year, they booted every doctor associated with JCMC out-of-network. They did the same with hospitals across NYC. Don't know anything about Cigna.
You can probably get hold of their respective in-network lists.

I've had Aetna for 15 years and have yet to have anything denied or have a place not accept it.
