Isnt Guttenberg 8 feet long? How did they recieve more than half of the grants for the walkway when JC has so much more walkway to be porvided?

$40,000 in grants to promote use of the waterfront in Guttenberg and Jersey City

The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection handed out a total of $40,000 earlier this month for projects that will allow hikers, bikers, runners, and walkers to enjoy the river's edge in Hudson County.

On Nov. 3, the DEP awarded Guttenberg $25,000 for the Hudson River Waterfront Walkway, a project that will eventually span from the Bayonne Bridge to the George Washington Bridge.

The East Coast Greenway Alliance, a project to create bike corridors along the East Coast from Maine to Florida, was given $15,000 by the DEP for the project's Jersey City section.

The money is used to fund projects that improve access to open space and enhance biking, hiking, and horseback riding opportunities around the state, according to a press release by the state agency.

Forty-eight projects around the state received a total of $833,109.

"Preserving and enhancing our natural resources and open spaces, and providing affordable recreational opportunities for our residents are priorities of the DEP," DEP Commissioner Bob Martin said in a statement.

The East Coast Greenway Alliance plans to use the money to update and reprint its bike trail guides.
