You don't need a lawyer for something like this.

Just show up in court with all your pertinent documents and wait for your turn to get called. Tell the DA you are pleading guilty and s/he will offer you a deal and a "surcharge" for reduction of points. Last time I recall it's $250 for 2 points.

Then you stand in front of the judge, agree to the fines and pay them downstairs.

A lawyer will only save you a little bit of time but will cost a lot of money.

I would use Ray Velazquez, the former councilman because he was a judge I believe in traffic court. He stepped down to run for office but his appointment was stopped. Find him on facebook.

I have got a letter saying my license will be suspended as i didn't attend a court date. Shockingly I was never informed about the court date. Calling the JC municipal court, found out that I was ticketed for driving an unregistered vehicle. I did renew the registration a bit late by a month. But I didnt get that ticket either.

The DMV had correct address and no one at the court tell me why I never got the intimation about the court date or the ticket.

can anyone tell me a good traffic attorney in Jersey City.

I had my license suspended for an unpaid parking ticket. The state is cracking down because there are so many deadbeats out there.

That being said, I find it VERY hard to believe that you didn't get a ticket for an unregistered vehicle. You usually get that type of ticket after a traffic stop & you fail to hand over a current registration. The ticket has the court date or the option to pay on line which you cannot do after your license has been suspended. In fact, your notification from the court (they send 2, I think) has the date of the ticket & the ticket number on it as well as the new court date & in your case your suspension date.

Good luck finding a lawyer for this but I personally think that you will be throwing good money after bad.

Apparently they did issue the ticket for parking an unregistered vehicle, its just that I never knew about the ticket till I called the court after seeing the notice of license suspension ! That notice did have the ticket numbers

found out there was a warrant out as I didn't show up on the court date. Sadly I only know about the missed court date from the license suspension notice set for Jan first week. Still shocked why they never even sent the court date notice in the first place, if not the tickets for parking unregistered vehicle and not returning the plates.

Now I have posted a bail and the clerk said they'd send a note to scheduling department for setting a new date. Looks like the new date could be in Feb as the judge's calendar is filled up.

Anyone know if there is anything I or an attorney can do to set a date soon !

ALso, the warrant is revoked now, but does it show up on any public records in any way shape or form ?

I recently went to the JC municipal court house to fight a parking ticket and there were plenty of people there with a situation similar to yours. Luckily there was a decent and understanding judge that night and everyone was getting a deal, granted they admitted fault. As long as you attend the court date and admit fault, saying honestly you forgot to pay or because of some other reason, they will most likely adjust your fine down. Only 1 person showed up with a lawyer, fyi.

chrisjersey,

There seems to be a big disconnect between Motor Vehicle Commission and Jersey City Municipal Court. I reported an incident in JCList last week regarding a Court letter I got in the mail with a "rescheduled Court Date" for two violations regarding my expired car registration. The fact of the matter is that I never received the car registration renewal notice by mail this year, neither did I receive a a ticket by mail from MVC and a letter from the JC Municipal Court with the original Court Date. You can refer to my posting in JCList last week documenting this matter:

http://jclist.com/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=30804

I'd like to find out who to complain about MVC not mailing ticket notices and the Court not sending Court Date communications in a timely fashion. Are they just trying to cash in more money from JC residents by intentionally not sending the letters in advance? Any tips will be greatly appreciated.
