There are plenty of parents in JC that care deeply about the well-being and education of their children. But the public schools are still not very good (with the exception of a couple of charter schools and, of course McNair - which are very difficult to get a spot in). This City doesn't seem to prioritize making the schools better. We need better infrastructure to start. We have elementary schools that have absolutely zero outside green space. Until the City starts focusing on how they can improve the schools enough to keep families here, people will continue to leave. Jersey City property values will never reach its full potential until you get the schools improved. Lets start making it a priority and dedicating resources. Use the power of eminent domain to start buying up adjacent land to improve the infrastructure of the schools.

I agree on student grades and improvements, but that really isn't going to happen unless you get parents to start caring.

You expect Fulop to have an impact on children's test scores after a few months in office?

How we doing at school? Kids mastering basic skills, staying in High School, continuing on to University? Feel safe on the street, buses, light rail? Having the tallest buildings and the biggest population, BFD.
Instead of being larger than Newark, I'd like to be as good as Summit, Maplewood, Monclair, fill in your favorite beau quartier.

Fulop: Jersey City 'flourishing' like never before
By Terrence T. McDonald/The Jersey Journal on February 26, 2014 at 2:22 PM Jersey City is ?flourishing at unprecedented levels,? Mayor Steve Fulop said today in a speech to the Hudson County Chamber of Commerce. Fulop, 36, elected last May to lead New Jersey?s second largest city, said Jersey City will soon have the state?s largest population and, in a few years, will be home to all of the state?s 20 tallest buildings. The city is undergoing the largest development boom in its history, with 5,000 residential units currently under construction, he said during the chamber?s annual luncheon meeting at New Jersey City University. And those new units, Fulop noted, won't be located just Downtown, which has seen the lion's share of new development in recent years. Read more from the Jersey Journal
