Also if you are a serial killer, bank robber, kidnapper, or cheating on your wife the card will give some truth to what is going on. Just imagine if the one you were with had a deadly contagious disease and you didn't know it and there was an antidote, it could save you...well at least you but not your marriage. The power of having big brother.

It's not simply a JC thing. Hotels require a Credit card to guarantee a room and additionally to hold as a guarantee of payment in case you take from the mini fridge or decide to take a robe or two. You can choose to pay in cash but most hotels will not take you without a credit card to at least hold in case you skip out with the room's contents. If you don't have a credit card - thy will usually ask for a deposit to cover "incidentals".

Not true.

You need a credit card to GUARANTEE a reservation at a hotel. In other words you need a credit card to "reserve" a room. But, you can always walk into a hotel and get a room on the spot and pay cash so long as a room is available. It's called a "walk in." If you do and choose not to use a credit card, you will need to pay a cash deposit in order to "post charges" to the room such as movies, internet, food etc. or for incidentals.

BIG F-ing DEAL!!! It's like renting an apartment - you give the landlord a security deposit. 99 out of 100 hotels require this. Who cares if it's a law, ordinance, etc...

I see nothing in our MUNICIPAL CODE that has that requirement.

Yet another example of a harmful intervention of the free market by the government.

I was recently told by two Police Officers that JC has an ordinance requiring hotels/motels to obtain a credit card from every person renting a room. I'm surprised they are allowed to do that. Every hotel I?ve been to gives the option of paying with a credit card or paying cash. If you pay cash, you have to leave an additional deposit for damages or incidentals. I?ve searched online for information about this ordinance, but I haven't been able to find anything. Does anyone know anything about this? Is it even true? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
