as promised, dntshoot, we made our 2009 elections database live today. it includes info on every candidate running for mayor or council and can be organized by ticket or office.
each candidate's page has a bio, links to our coverage of that person, and a google news feed of other news outlets' coverage. it's relatively low-tech but we think it's a good one-stop resource. check it out here. as for the school board, we'll be publishing q&as with many of the candidates in a few weeks.

dntshoot: The Independent is also in the process of finishing up our 2009 Jersey City "election central" project, where you'll be able to find out who's running for what, along with biographies and news on that person culled from our own reporting and other sources. We plan on unveiling it after the March 19 filing deadline for candidates. That way we'll know for sure who is on the ballot and who isn't.
Also check with us over the next month as we'll be doing q&a's with school board candidates. (school board election is on April 21).

Great question. and this is the place you'll get a great discourse on the candidates. Coming from San Fran, I know you must be a very political person, interested in your new jersey City community, so here goes:
a: anyone not currently in office but looking to be in office: insane b: anyone currently in office: corrupt c: children of people in office: morally corrupt and probably dealing /buying drugs on wayne street

Does anyone know of a good resource to get an idea of the current candidates for public office, possible/pending legislation, etc?
I am finally done(ish) working on our new home and I need a crash course in local politics after moving here from San Francisco. Thanks.
