Announce arrests of 19 Latin Kings

Thursday, May 31, 2007
By MICHAELANGELO CONTE
JOURNAL STAFF WRITER

Nineteen alleged members of the Latin Kings gang were arrested and 340 grams of cocaine seized by federal, county and local law enforcement officials in Operation Community Shield, focusing on North Hudson, officials announced yesterday.

"Our successful partnership with ICE led to this significant suppression of street gang activity in Hudson County," Hudson County Prosecutor Edward DeFazio said yesterday, referring to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. "We anticipate more joint investigations in the near future."

The six-month probe resulted in the arrest of Tito Lopez, aka "King Chino," 28, of Guttenberg, an alleged high-ranking gang member. Lopez was charged with a federal drug dealing offense, officials said. He allegedly leads gang members in activities including drug distribution, burglaries, witness intimidation, assaults and weapons sales, officials said.

Arrested during the course of the investigation were Jersey City residents Alexander Serrano aka "King Indio," 42; Ralph Gonzalez aka "Attica," 37; Miguel Maldonado, 23; David Rodriguez, aka "Chapo," 26; Pablo Figueroa, aka "Pablito," 31; Juan Carlos Cortes, 27, and Jerry Serrano, aka "Jay," 29, officials said.

North Bergen residents arrested are Orlando Blue aka "OHIO," 20; Pedro Santos-Jimenez, aka "P," 24; and Miguel Munoz, 35, as well as Guttenberg residents Jair Davila aka "JR," 22, and Walter Martinez, 29, officials said. Also among those arrested was Oscar Williams aka "Matute," 25, of Secaucus, and the rest were from outside Hudson County.

Kyle Hutchins, head of the Newark ICE office, said investigators dismantled gang operations by tracing and seizing gang cash, weapons and other assets.
