I'd say 9,000 is significant, traffic lights were also out. Stop reducing the effect of who it can affect.

A "customer" is an individual structure regardless if it's a single family home or a 400-unit building.

With that being said, it's more than a "few city blocks."

The power outage, which has been ongoing for about an hour, initially took in an area between North Street, 10th Street, Tonnelle Avenue and Kennedy Boulevard, according to Jersey City Fire Director Armando Roman.

But the power outage has spread south, further into the Jersey City Heights, he said.

A PSE&G spokeswoman said 9,000 of customers are without power statewide.

She said crews are out and the problem is "weather-related."

Traffic lights are out along several Kennedy Boulevard intersections. More on Power Outage.
