Two arrested in Jersey City armed carjacking

Wednesday, July 20, 2011, 3:00 AM
By Michaelangelo Conte/The Jersey Journal

Jersey City police chased a carjacked SUV into Newark Monday night, and Newark police arrested two men inside and recovered a handgun, officials said.

Abdullah Jabbar and Mark E. Warren, 48, both of Newark, were charged with carjacking and weapons offenses in the 8 p.m. carjacking at Pep Boys on Route 440 in Jersey City, reports said.

A 59-year-old Laurence Harbor man said he was working on his Cadillac Escalade in the Pep Boys parking lot when the two men approached with a gun and said, ?Give me your truck,? reports said.

Police lead away one of the suspects in a carjacking Monday night at the Hudson Mall in Jersey City after capturing the pair in Newark.

The man ran away and the pair left in the vehicle, but Jersey City police spotted it at Communipaw Avenue and Route 440, triggering a pursuit that led into Newark, reports said. Once in Newark, the Jersey City cops lost sight of the SUV, but Newark police located the vehicle and took the suspects into custody, reports said.

The victim was taken to Newark, where he identified the men as the carjackers, reports said.

Warren was in prison from Sept. 14, 2007, to March 5, 2009, and March 9, 2009, to Nov. 17, 2009, for receiving stolen property, corrections records say.
Jabbar?s age was not available.
