Burglar takes $11G, jewelry
Saturday, January 19, 2008 By PAUL KOEPP JOURNAL STAFF WRITER Jewelry and $11,000 in cash was stolen Thursday afternoon from a Winfield Avenue home in Jersey City, by a burglar who seemed to know just where to look, police reports said. According to reports, someone slipped into a bedroom of the first-floor apartment near Columbia Park between 2 p.m. and 2:45 p.m. without leaving any signs of forced entry. The burglar took $5,000 from a dresser drawer, $3,000 from a purse in another drawer, $2,000 from a night stand drawer, $1,000 from a briefcase, and gold jewelry from a cabinet, police said. The victim said he suspected a former tenant of the building, because he said burglaries in the area were frequent when the man lived there and dropped off when he moved out, reports said.
