What picture!!!? We need an actual crimes db for JC that ties up with the UCR and can be viewed on a map. Both this and Trulia miss the mark by a wide margin.

It looks they don't categorize the crimes. For example, the area around Grove St and Hoboken PATH are practically as red as Greenville- but probably for public drunkenness and arguments, not the violent crime you might see in other areas.

For example, I see in DTJC a lot "merchant/customer dispute" near Newark, Grove, the mall, and Target. Well big shocker. But it's not accurate to color that "high crime" IMO.

I think trulia works off the spotcrime database. And I don't think spotcrime gets an accurate feed from the JCPD database. I know there were plans to put this info online, but don't know the status of that.

The UCR on the JCPD website is a better guide, but only breaks the numbers down by North/South/East/West.

I'm looking at the trulia crime map out of curiosity, and wonder about its accuracy and color coding system.

http://www.trulia.com/real_estate/Jersey_City-New_Jersey/

I see it reports lots of crimes in The Heights, where I live and feel pretty safe. And reports few crimes in B-L, where I'm moving to. However, the B of the B-L, McGinley Sq, and Greenville, are colored as less safe than the Heights, when the number of crimes is fewer, like 200 fewer crimes.

What is that about?
