By Michaelangelo Conte/The Jersey Journal

Three robbers ordered a group of people to the ground and opened fire on Bramhall Avenue in Jersey City yesterday afternoon but no one was hit, officials said.

Officers responding to the location near Sackett Street at about 12:41 p.m. spoke to a victim who said he pulled over to speak to his brother and some friends in front of a residence and as he got out of his car, three gunman approached, reports said.

The victim said the robbers told everyone to "get on the floor" and they began shooting, reports said, adding that one of them took the victim's wallet, reports said.

A witness who had been speaking to a friend nearby said she ran into her house when she saw the gunman and heard gunfire, reports said. A number of witnesses refused to speak to police, reports said, adding that several spent shell casing were recovered at the scene.

Anyone with information on the robbery is asked to call the Jersey City police tip line at (201) 547 - JAIL.

Jersey City police are at Bramhall Avenue and Sackett Street investigating an apparent attempted armed robbery in which shots were fired at about 12:45 p.m. today

It does not appear that anyone was hit by the gunfire, said Joe Shine, a freelance photographer for The Jersey Journal who was at the scene. He also said that police have marked what appears to be spent shell casings on the sidewalk.
