Jersey City man, 79, is robbed and tossed to the ground
Published: Friday, September 30, 2011, 3:00 AM By The Jersey Journal A 79-year-old Jersey City man was assaulted and robbed of $450 in jewelry near Journal Square as he walked home Wednesday evening, officials said. The Vroom Street man was walking on Van Reypen Avenue at 5:04 p.m. when a man ripped two gold chains from his neck and threw him to the sidewalk, police said. The robber was described as being about 6-feet tall and about 30 years old, and he was wearing a sleeveless blue shirt and blue jeans, police said. Anyone with information about the crime, which occurred near Highland Avenue, is asked to call the police tip line, (201) 547-JAIL.
