No need to be alarmed, Police Chief Comey and Mayor Healy tell us every thing is great and crime is down.

We should be thankful to them and joyous. We need to rally around and reward them with another term in office and a bonus to boot !

If this is found to be a homicide that would make this the 21st. We might even have 22 if the lady shot in the Heights is found to have been a homicide as well. This could easily be another bad year, besides 2005(38) 26 homicides is the most we had in the last 10 years. At this rate we will pass that before new years. We have three and a half months left and this is the time of year there is usually the most murders.

Arrest in violent robbery; victim died
Thursday, September 18, 2008

SECAUCUS - Homicide detectives arrested a Jersey City man at his town workplace yesterday in connection with a vicious Jersey City robbery in which the victim died two days later, authorities said.

Angelo Williams, 27, aka "H," of Armstrong Avenue in Jersey City, was arrested just before 2 p.m. on Enterprise Avenue, Hudson County Prosecutor Edward DeFazio said. Tests conducted by the medical examiner on the victim could result in a homicide charge, DeFazio said.

A warrant for Williams' arrest on the charge of first degree robbery was signed by Hudson County Superior Court Judge Kevin Callahan earlier yesterday, DeFazio said.

Andre Scott, 49, of Armstrong Avenue, suffered head trauma, a fractured nose and other injuries when he was attacked on Armstrong Avenue near Martin Luther King Drive on July 16, DeFazio said. Scott died two days later at the Jersey City Medical Center.

"We allege that Mr. Williams was a direct participant in the beating and robbery of Andre Scott, who, it appears, sustained the injuries during a physical beating," said DeFazio. "We are waiting for the result of the autopsy and it could very well be established as homicide."

Eyewitnesses identified a 14-year-old boy as one of Scott's attackers, but could identify the other only by his street name," DeFazio said, adding that the boy was charged with robbery on Aug. 5. "Eyewitnesses knew him as 'H' and it was a process of identifying who 'H' was."

The state Regional Medical Examiner's Office in Newark is performing additional medical tests to determine if Scott's death was the results of the beating he suffered during the robbery, DeFazio said.

"It clearly was gratuitous violence in the course of a theft," the prosecutor said of the crime.

The criminal charge of robbery carries a possible sentence of 10 to 20 years in prison upon conviction, while the charge of murder carries a possible sentence of 30 to life.
