Victim of stabbing may have had a bullet with his name on it

Jersey City cops found a man stabbed at the same spot where, two hours earlier, they'd found a shell casing with the man's first name etched into it.

Police were first called to Van Wagenen Avenue between Sip and Pavonia avenues last night at 7.56 p.m. on a "shots fired" call, police said. When they arrived, they saw a man later identified as 21-year-old Zahkey Jeter, of Lakewood, standing in the middle of the street waving a handgun and yelling profanities, reports said. He then fired a shot into a building across the street, reports said - hitting a door but not injuring anyone.

The officer drew his gun and told Jeter to drop the weapon, but Jeter ran off north toward Pavonia Avenue still holding the gun, reports said. Cops ran him down and arrested him on charges of firing shots, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes, resisting arrest and criminal mischief, reports said.

The gun Jeter was carrying -- a .357 Ruger Blackhawk revolver -- contained two live rounds and four spent shell casings. One of the spent shell casings had the name "Manuel" etched into its surface, authorities said.

Then, at 9:55 p.m., police were called to Van Wagenen and Sip avenues on a report of a stabbing. The 32-year-old man, who had taken shelter in a nearby bar, told cops he'd been stabbed at the park on Corbin Avenue, but cops searched the area without finding any evidence, police said.

The victim -- whose first name is Manuel -- refused to answer further questions from police, reports said. He was treated for non-life threatening puncture wound to his upper left chest at the Jersey City Medical Center, police said.
