Bike JC hosts PARK(ing) Day 2013

Bike JC is pleased to announce that Jersey City will be hosting its very own PARK(ing) Day on Friday, September 20, 2013 from 5-9PM in the Grove Sreet PATH Plaza area.

PARK(ing) Day is an annual open-source global event where citizens, artists and activists collaborate to temporarily transform metered parking spaces into ?PARK(ing)? spaces: temporary public spaces.

Bike JC?s PARK(ing) Day space will feature bike repair demonstrations, bike parking, and a special 3rd Friday Ride. Bring your bike, bring your friends and join us in celebrating our city!

The 3rd Friday ride will leave at around 6:45 or 7pm and will be an hour or so ride at a casual pace. Bring lights and a helmet!

I know you must be new to our country but please refrain from calling the Port Authority Police "junior mall cops" especially when 9-11 is right around the corner. Many of the PAPD died and suffered when the Twin Towers fell on 9-11 2001 due to foreign terrorists reeking havoc on our soil. This is insulting and offensive you should be ashamed. I hope this comment gets deleted before 9-11 approaches.

Trying to stop comments you find insensitive by also making insensitive comments that have hints of racism is not the way to go. What's the rationale? Immigrants are more likely to not respect US police forces? I don't understand why half the things are written on this site.

it's 500sq ft less and just a couple houses down. Hardly worth the $1500 difference.

Just to understand the management group we are dealing with here, check out these 2 properties and the difference in asking price. Guess which is now owned by the hedge fund...

anonymous highway rest stop sex? tipping into code for homosexuals as sexual deviants? there is nothing to back this up. stick to facts and away from baiting.

increase since when? It has certainly decreased over the years. Noticed a tangible jump after the 2008 recession but mostly in Journal Square.

June 12, 2013

Dear Police District Captains,

We at Bike JC would like to thank you for the essential presence of the Jersey City police officers riding and driving along with over 800 bicyclists at Bike JC?s Fourth Annual Jersey City Ward Tour.

This was our fourth time out with Jersey City?s finest and, as usual, the officers were professional, polite, and helpful beyond the call. Officers on bicycles and motorcycles stopped at intersections to protect riders, helped move along some of the more leisurely paced riders, and provided an essential interface between riders and drivers on the Sunday morning streets. The Tour came off beautifully, with everyone finishing safely and in good spirits, all thanks to the efforts of the Jersey City police. We particularly appreciated the encouragement to our riders given by officers who were along the route. This year has received a tremendous amount of positive feedback and we can?t say enough how instrumental the JCPD plays in guaranteeing our Tour?s success.

We would like to acknowledge and commend the Police Department once again for supporting bicycling and safe streets in Jersey City and the annual Ward Tour.

Thanks again. Let?s make a date for next year.

Sincerely,

Christopher Englese
President, Bike JC

Thanks for all the comments - we had a great time and worked tirelessly to correct some of the problems we experienced last year. It seems to have worked. The turnout and response have been fantastic. Please let us know your thoughts - both positive and negative - as we continue to make this a more perfect experience for all. Thanks again and take a moment to 'like' us on Facebook for all up to date information.

If it starts at 11am, what is a more realistic time to show up? 10?

Registration has opened at 9am since our first year - and the race does kick off at 11am. There has been no change to this process. 10am is a fine time to arrive.

Please note that Bike JC and the JCPD strongly encourage all participants to leave their bags at home. Use of transparent bags would be best and ALL bags are subject to search.

Jersey City Ward Tour, June 2, 11 am, Exchange Place. Raindate June 9.

Bike JC announces its fourth annual Jersey City Ward Tour, a fifteen-mile group bike ride through all six wards of Jersey City on June 2. The Tour starts and finishes at Exchange Place, leaving at 11 am. Registration is required and is free online at bikejc.org.

The After Tour festival features food and beer, live music, and a nonprofit showcase. Riders and non-riders alike are invited to Exchange Place from 1-5 pm on June 2 (raindate of June 9). The After Tour will also debut the guidelines for its Bike Rack Design Competition, held in collaboration with the Jersey City Art School and the City of Jersey City. The Jersey City Art School will host a table with materials to design a rack on the spot. The winning design will be manufactured and used on the streets of Jersey City.

For those riders with energy to spare, the After Tour will also host Gold Sprint Races, in which cyclists on stationary bikes compete against each other in front of spectators. A computer tracks speeds and wins within brackets (much like basketball) until an ultimate winner emerges.

Bike JC?s Fourth Annual Ward Tour is made possible by the support of the City of Jersey City, the Hudson Transportation Management Association, Iron Monkey, Buy-Rite, Pole Position Raceway, the Jersey City Board of Education, the Historic Downtown Special Improvement District, United Water, the Jersey City Art School, Madame Claude Caf?, Madame Claude Wines, Institute for Personal Growth, White Star, Captain Al?s, Yelp!, Rock-it Docket, Grove Street Bicycles, and Barcade.

Riders must be 10 and up to participate and must wear helmets. Riders should try to leave any bags at home and carry necessities on themselves and their bicycles; all bags are subject to search.

Hello Bike JC Members and Jersey City Residents,

With just a bit over 2 weeks until the 4th Annual Ward Tour we thought it would be important to have one last meeting to go through all volunteer areas. We will cover setup/breakdown, registration, marshaling and the After Tour Festival.

Please join us on Tuesday May 28, 2013 at 730pm. The meeting will take place in the Jersey City Art School Garden, 326 5th Street. You may enter through the embankment alley between Monmouth & Coles.

Please come dressed to paint if you'd like to help paint signs for the event. Sangria will be served and feel free to BYOB.

Thanks for your continued support and see you then!

francese... the specials... mozz tutti... hands down, the best italian food around.

Have been going here for more than a decade and the food and atmosphere are always consistent. The service does lack at times, but the food more than makes up for it. So does the BYOB.

Haven't mentioned the restaurant on here as the place is quite quaint and I didn't want the word to get out. if you haven't tried it, I suggest you do. (except on thursday nights around 8:30.)

As for the BREAD guy/comment from the previous post... if every other table comes in and like yourself, enjoys eating an extra roll or two, I assure the cost gets high.

You're connecting dots that aren't there. This is not about safety due to crime, this is about cyclists coming together for a festive ride. Think less "Critical Mass" and more "5boro tour" in NYC. Same concept.
