Can you possibly find it in your heart to explain to your family, that there are people worse off than you and yours? If you can't, maybe you're unclear on how life works. Low income housing by a highway exit? I know, sounds incredible. How could you possibly justify this uncomfortable fact of life? Posts like yours make me want to move.

Hey jclisters,

On this youtube link below is video of my brother in law's house being burgled. The burglar is caught on video entering and exiting with a tv under his arm. You can also see his escape vehicle. If anyone knows a CSI detective who can enhance this video to read the license plate, please reach out to me.

edit: link I originally uploaded didn't convert properly via youtube's compression.

I know this sounds ridiculous, but seriously, try the vanilla. It is the best vanilla ice cream I've ever had in my life. You can see that they use real vanilla from all the little black specs throughout.

motorcycle dudes unite

My neighbor has a motorcycle. He likes to ride his motorcycle anywhere between 2 and 7 times every night from 7pm to as late as 2am. Normally I would think that everyone has their right to do whatever it is they want, even if it's a little bothersome. But I am starting to wonder about this guy.

Every night he is gone from anywhere between 6 minutes to an hour. Sometimes I hear him revving it outside and other times he walks away from it with the idle set too low, and then it stalls out. Most often though, he fires it up, blazes down the street and rides off for about 15 minutes, and then returns. An hour later he does the exact same thing. Then randomly over and over again throughout the evening.

So seriously, where does everyone think this guy going every night? Why is he always roaring by during the most crucial dialogue in the movie or tv show.

i'll fifth it. he has also successfully retubed and biased my marshall amp with new-old-stock tubes (tubes that were made years ago but were never sold). please let him do a "set-up" on your guitar to ensure that the action, the bridge and the electronics are all doing what they should be.

I imagine if someone spray painted a swastika, or a racist term for any other group of people, it would cause some sort of hue and cry and get removed, no?

I saw that "Honky Begone" grafitti and I left. I guess that incantation worked!!!

Crap like this isn't graffiti, it's vandalism.

parking tickets & the dreaded boot

Has anyone else noticed the large amount of booted cars lately? I counted four on my walk home the other day. What gives? Has there been a change in the parking rules, or are people just abandoning stolen cars in JC? Does anyone know the exact rule for getting booted?

As a side note, how many parking tickets has everyone accumulated this year? I'm already up to 6.

sometimes my connection is painfully slow, the kind of slow you get when a dozen people are using the same hub. is this because of Comcast, or has someone hacked in to my wireless access?

When you say Airport, you mean Apple's Airport router series?

Its unlikely your router has been hacked into. But there are lots of reasons for slowing internet connection, including the weather.

On your end, your computer might be infected with software that is consuming bandwidth by sending data; other electronic devices' magnetic fields could be interfering with your signal.

If someone's mac is slow because of bandwith consuming software it is because they chose to install it. I am unaware of any reports of a mac that has become infected.

I have heard that it's possible for cable based internet to slow simply because of the amount of people who are uploading/downloading when they share the same connection.

Check this link here which unfortunately doesn't really offer a solution, just describes what is probably happening to you when your connection slows down.

http://consumerist.com/consumer/fake- ... ig-ten-channel-292271.php

Personally, i called them recently because I was transferring a few songs I wrote to another friend online using instant messenger. Our transfer rate started out pretty quick, and then got slower and slower and slower, to the point where it had stopped. I asked why, and they said they don't support illegal file sharing. I explained how I wrote this material, and that there was nothing illegal about it. They turned the tables on me and said that if I wanted faster download speeds, I should get the new internet powerboost that they're currently offering. WTF? Nice attempt at answering my question.

Seriously? Aren't I already paying for "high-speed internet"? I am DYING to switch to Verizon FIOS when it comes to Jersey City. For those of you who are interested, you can sign up to get a message at the FIOS website when it becomes available in your area.

Lastly, how many HD channels does Comcast offer right now in JC? I think there are about 8-10 depending on what time of day you check. That is pathetic compared to what I hear DirecTV offers. Anyone have any experience with them?

Re: JC Parking Code of Ethics
#23
Not too shy to talk
Not too shy to talk

while i agree that parking is becoming more and more difficult in jc, it does seem to be mostly out of our control. there are many instances where someone looks to have done something wrong, but in reality, they ended up with an awkward sized space and couldn't efficiently maximize the space.

take for example when a large suv, pse&g truck or other such oversize vehicle leaves it's space, and a much smaller car takes its place. the small car driver now unwittingly looks as if they've done something stupid by leaving too much space in one direction or another.

anyway, as someone who has been parking their car every other day for about 4 years now, i can only offer the following advice.

before parking, when you are first or last car on the edges of the block, make sure your tires are as close as possible to the painted red curbside without going over it. that will at least give the slightest bit more room for everyone in between. the next car in line should try to park as closely as possible while leaving just enough room to maneuver in and out should someone else park to closely in the other direction.

when parking in the middle of the block, take a moment and size up the situation. if the street cleaner has recently passed or a large vehicle has vacated a space leaving those large gaps, make sure you park as closely as possibly to other cars who are using their space wisely. that means that if there are a few cars parked at corner A and they have large gaps between them, but there are a few other cars parked at corner B and there is very little space between them, park as closely to the cars at corner B as possible. by parking near corner A, you are effectively locking that dead space in until all of those cars leave.

by trying to apply both courtesies, there is a slightly better chance that parking could become a tad easier for us all.

if anyone else has any other ideas to bring to the table, i'd love to hear them!

my condolences on your loss as well.

as i am not a professional, but i have been following the market and living here for 6 years, the prices in jc have been dropping for the last year and a half. if it were me, i would price it to leave as soon as possible, as prices in the area have started their inevitable decline. add to that the flood of condominiums that are about to come on the market from all the new developments, and you could have a serious issue on your hands where your property values spiral downwards out of control.
