That's really ugly. I hate grandiose entrances to subway stations. I actually think it's kind of cool the way it is now.

I used to live in Greenpoint, Word is a normal bookstore, you don't need to worry about a "hipster invasion," they have a very good selection. And no...JC is not even close to BK in being "hipster," though I'm not sure what that word means anymore.

As someone who doesn't have a car, I really hope the new bridge is bike/pedestrian friendly, maybe they can stripe a protected path alongside the car lanes. (But I doubt it, NJ is kind of stuck in the past in the "complete streets" area...)

"In addition to bike lanes, Healy has submitted revisions of cycling ordinances to the City Council for consideration at its Dec. 19 meeting. Some of the revisions include adding bicycle passenger safety requirements, allowing cyclists to ride on sidewalks, provided pedestrians are given the right-of-way and allowing the city engineer to specify certain sidewalks where cycling is prohibited."

This part--"allowing cyclists to ride on sidewalks"--is just another way to keep bicycles off the road and not have to deal with implementing actual bike infrastructure in the street.

I only need 1 zone, but I didn't see that as an option at the light rail kiosk. I have to go to "W&W Discount Store" or something to get a bus pass, according to NJ Transit website (who knows when the last time that was updated)

I am wondering if you can also buy a bus card at the light rail station? I saw an option for "bus" when I was buying a light rail ticket this morning. I want to buy a monthly bus pass and it would save time to not have to go to one or those stores to buy one. Doesn't say anything on NJ transit website about buying tickets at the machine, only lists those stores.

Careful, no one have any fun with this guy around. Curmudgeon police alert. I've never seen someone get so angry and worked up about a skate park. If you panic about every potential minor inconvenience, maybe a city is not the best place for you.

I wouldn't mind a vehicle bridge or regular street going into the park, it would actually present a good opportunity for a protected separated two-way bike lane and ped lane alongside it or something of that sort. Jersey Ave is more than wide enough for cars, bikes and peds. Although this being New Jersey they probably won't do that. It could wind up being another Grand Ave.

I'm sad about that bridge, I have a lot of fond memories of it. Riding my bike over to Liberty Landing and Liberty State Park has always been a nice escape for me at the end of the day. Riding all the way around to get there on surface streets is going to suck. I hope they repair or rebuild the bridge soon but the practical side of me thinks its going to be low down on peoples lists of priorities. It was never the best bridge in the world- I remember riding across it when it was submerged at high tide!

Especially when those streets are not suitable for bike riding at all.

Just got back from voting. After all my worrying and moaning it wound up being a very smooth and easy process. I was not asked to show ID, I was registered in their books and everything worked out, didn't take long at all. Worth the ferry/bike ride combo I took back to JC.

Why did they offer the service to begin with if they knew it was going to be a "bad idea." There are probably tons of people not going to vote now because they are waiting on an electronic ballot.

Turns out I'm just going to go back to Lafayette to vote. I just heard my power came back on anyway.

I have a question, if I were to go to Newport to vote via the PATH (much closer to me than Lafayette), do I need to show ID to vote? I still have a NY license (I know, I know) but I am registered in Jersey. Otherwise I would have to go back to my house to get my passport and I don't think I will make it in time after work. We can vote anywhere in Jersey City right?

I live on Pacific Ave. I texted someone in my building this morning who said we still didn't have power. Even if it comes back I just got to my hotel last night, I work in manhattan anyway and I don't have a car so I don't want to trek all the way back there...I would if I had to but I just filled out the ballot by mail application for hudson county, we'll see how that goes.

I live in Bergen Lafayette, and since we've been a week without power I got put up in a hotel in manhattan near where I work as of yesterday. As I was rejoicing, (light! Power! Wifi!), I then sullenly realized that I will have to trek back to BL tomorrow to go vote. And that there still is no power in BL. Are the path trains going to be running, you think? I have no car so I rode my bike to the ferry in hoboken yesterday and it was a bit of a harrowing ordeal. Sadly I may have to take off work tomorrow to go do this. I wish you could vote where you work instead of where you live or the elections could be on Saturday. Oh well, c'est la vie.

no, no. i was responding to your response about the poster above who said drivers were speeding around the construction and it was unsafe to cross there. obviously they need to re-pave the street. i was saying that they could make the construction process safer for pedestrians by enforcing traffic laws on frustrated speedy drivers. or maybe directing traffic there to help people out. nevermind.

With your concept we should pay according to the number of stops we pass before getting off.

The point he was making is that with the MTA, you can go anywhere you want in the city. Need to hop uptown to visit a friend? Get on the subway. You can go to Queens, anywhere. The beach. Get on and go one stop if it starts raining. You can do all of those things. With the PATH, I can't hop on and go visit my friends in the Heights, or go anywhere in Jersey City basically. All the Path does is ferry people to manhattan, and sometimes just in the "general area" you need to be at.

This is just gross all around. They need some competition; someone get rid of the monopoly they have on the hudson river. The path barely goes anywhere. 2.75 is ludicrous. Then after that what happens? 3 dollars? Five? They can do whatever they want basically.

That's TAKING from those who ACTUALLY WORK their asses off, to give to those who don't give a SHITE.

Anyone notice the machines at Grove take a million years to process your payment? It's uncomfortably long. Just when you start looking around for a station agent it finally goes through. It's hit or miss with those machines.

This seems cool. I hope the park has a lot of trees.

It's exciting to see this area change, but I think the thing that might stop it from becoming the next "place-to-be" I guess, is that barren divide between downtown and here, where the turnpike cuts through. The neighborhoods are physically divided. Unless they tear out that section of turnpike (never going to happen) I'm not sure I see bergen-lafayette "redeveloping." I don't know if how I wrote this made sense...

thoughts?
