State Statutes are diferent from the Jersey City Ordinances regarding noisy dogs. Please call JC Animal Control for the local laws before posting stuff you found on the internet.

Re: Local Rental Scam you should know about

I've had a lot of those generic emails about the moldings and archways in the rooms and etc, my family was raised in this home but now I am overseas in the missionaries, etc.

I've seen condos in Hamilton Park listed, 3-4bedrooms in the Heights for under 1000, all sorts of crazy stuff. As soon as I get the "Hello Sir/Madam" email I just know.

Instead I just write them back in old English and politely write them back another B.S. email about how I'd love to take their place and take great care of it etc, EXCEPT I had already checked the place out to find out the address either doesn't exist or the tax records do not indicate that William Williamson or Mortimer Johnson is not the owner.

You catch my drift.

I know a few people who rent off of Sip ave near 440 and they all have 2-3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, full laundry, stainless appliances, driveways and garage spots, all under 1700 a month. Keep looking and if you want to be in Jersey City you will catch a deal sooner or later.

Parking in Journal square is not easy, when I had one car over there I had to find private parking for 100 bucks a month.

IMO places like Journal Square,Greenville, and The Heights you actual do need a car because it helps you to get around, these parts of town are not pedestrian friendly and with limited public transportation options. So I understand two cars. Many of my coworkers drive into lower Manhattan from The Bronx and Brooklyn all the time not such a big deal. If the tunnel was free like the bridges we would see alot more drivers coming from Jersey.

I agree with you on this. We need to drive everywhere because of how far up in the Heights we are.

We rent in the heights, 2br, 2 parking spots, only one bathroom though, laundry, storage, dishwasher, living/dining room for under 1600. Downtown you can just get the $15 street permit but parking is hard to come by on the street on some nights. If you look at Bayonne and even in Greenville you can find places with driveways.

I've had this happen at stations all across the state. They somehow "no speak a the English" well when you ask them to stop the pump. I had $50 in my checking once and it took 46 to fill my tank when I asked for 20. Then I didn't have enough money to hold me over until I got paid and wouldn't reimburse me because "the transaction went through, you had enough money."

You got pwned, sadly.

Regarding the break cables of an earlier post, It IS spring time and I am sure they are overloaded with work. On the other hand replacing the break cables on a bike can probably be done by an expert faster than you or I can type and read this note I'm posting. I went in once for a broken spoke and I was amazed when they told me it would be about a week. Its nice to have a local place to go for repairs but I wish they would prioritize simple repairs like a spoke or a set of cables. There is no reason those sorts of repairs should take very long.

This happened over a year ago. I went somewhere else along my way and I was in and out in about 5 minutes. I could have done it myself if I had tools but I was on route out of Jersey City with the bike and my cable started to come apart. Bummer. I still do buy parts from them on occasion but I have another local shop put them on for me :)

Re: Purportedly Incorrect Condo Building Master Deed - The Hague Building
Home away from home
Home away from home

Nowhere to park, and if you park on the street expect the "welcome to the neighborhood" obligatory smashed window when you go out to move the car. There's broken glass every day on Duncan & Fairmount at JFK.

Lots of cool units, no two are alike. Duplexes, wide open floor plans, multiple bathrooms/bedrooms/offices, etc. I've been in a few that have had really nice renovations and a few with really vintage kitchens. The only thing that seems pretty consistent is the flooring in most of the units and the old world style trim on the walls. Really charming but airy and bright on the Southern side of the building.

If you have a dog and don't live on the first floor you must take the service elevator in the basement until 9PM. First floor residents are grandfathered in and can enter and exit through the main door.

Some of the units are rented out. Others are owned, so there will always be some attitudes regarding that. They do have a great condo board and seem to address issues fast.

The people near the church on Duncan can be kind of wacko. Use caution if you own dogs as they run around with cameras and accuse everyone of letting their dog pee on their property. Every spring someone posts threatening notes in the lobbies of the apartment and condo buildings regarding dogs peeing on walls & dirt patches.

The corner park across the street is about to be completely redone. The meeting was held tonight. They plan on putting in a playground for children ages 2-4. No dog run as requested numerous times by the residents who own dogs.

Overall, the Hague building is pretty cool but there's still a lot to be desired in that neighborhood. Honey Bakery in the Basilico is really great and Jimmy Bravo was a plus but they seem to be gone. There are lots of good eats in McGinley Square, but they lack parking and unfortunately are hot spots for GPS thieves and other smash and grabs.

The Filipino community in JC is growing. They love their places from home being in town instead of a 23 hour flight away. Cant say I blame them, Id miss a lot of my favorite staples around our area if I left.

There's a lot on the corner of Academy & Baldwin, also another one on Academy between Summit & Baldwin. They are pretty affordable, 24 hour access. I know one of them was around $75 per month last time I rented in that area, but they are pretty affordable compared to what you find by the courthouse and downtown.

anything near Palisade and you are fine as far as public transportation goes. Western Slope is probably a bit quieter, but the buses are not as plentiful as Palisade.

Last time they found them a "home" they ended up back in the Kolbs home. Someone needs to ship this dog back to the breeder in South Africa or send it to an actual breed specific rescue agency who will send someone on their own to pick up the dog and be done with it.

griffin: It's definitely bike-able. you just have to go down Communipaw to Mallory, make a right on either Virginia or Clarke and cross over the jug handle that goes into the mall. The street kind of ends at a sidewalk that separates the street traffic from the jug handle which you could probably just ride the bike over. I've done it myself a few times on foot from the light rail on Claremont.

If I were going to purchase a house in this city I'd definitely consider Greenville (by Princeton/Garfield or West Side/Sterling/Romar) and Lincoln Park or the Heights for the best bang for the buck...but as a renter I tend to pick and choose based on my needs in a rental. Paying a mortgage and actually owning the property would be a completely different story.

My credit is terrible but i can afford $1500 a month on my own. I paid a little more than 3/4 of that to live downtown and pay less than that in the heights. I also have washer, dryer, parking, dishwasher, storage, and yard with a great view of the NY skyline and buses at my doorstep, a half a block to the 9th street light rail.

Get pay stubs, past landlord recommendations (though maybe not current - that can cause problems) and be lenient on the security/credit history if it means getting a really good tenant who will respect your property and continue to live there.

My biggest deal breaker when relocating is always laundry and a dishwasher. Parking depends on the location, but the laundry is an absolute must.

Very true. We owned 2 houses on Prospect for going on 65 years and still own one and we were in favor of the supermarket. Back then there were very little options for grocery shopping. C-Town was still the disgusting Met-Food, Supremo hadn't been renovated, and I don't even remember what year Hoboken Shop Rite opened up. Obviously the people who post in defense of shopping along Central are talking about present day, not how it was when these meetings were going on.

The whole point is it's not even just about us being "wah wah we didn't get our supermarket" but more so that Michael Yun didn't even live here and the avenue really hasn't improved much either way.

I attended these meetings and at that point in time, Michael Yuns arguments against having the Stop N Shop just didn't really make much sense.
