The pizza is a pretty good slice. I've been in a few times. Last time I went I got the fettuccine, and I thought it was cool that I was given the choice of the homemade fettuccine or the out of the box kind. I went with the homemade and it was quite excellent. Also had the wings, which I was really impressed with. I just wish the service was a little faster.

I think it's snobbish to be so judgmental of them because of their video game choices before they even open.

Thanks for the suggestions. My Google maps GPS isn't always reliable so I haven't tried it in awhile but I think I'll check out these suggestions.

I thought for sure I'd be bombarded with "move to the suburbs" comments.

Reliable AM traffic reports?

Does anyone have any good recommendations for finding out the local traffic in the morning? I do an opposite commute each morning, going from Downtown JC to the Turnpike via the Turnpike extension. With the bridge construction going on it seems like a crap shoot whether I'll get through or sit in traffic for an hour. The other alternatives (1&9 Truck via Communipaw or Pulaski Skyway) are as equally unreliable and most of the local traffic reports on radio rarely mention our area. Any suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks.

What is the fascination with bars with you people? There are plenty of bars around the downtown area. Are they packed to the rafters? No, so what's the problem? I used to hang out with a friend sometimes who could never be happy in any bar. "Lets go somewhere else, this place sucks". It would go on and on in a fruitless search for a "cool" bar. It's the "grass is always greener" syndrome. Just go to a place and sit and relax and enjoy yourself. If you think that someone is going to build a bar to your specs you are hopelessly lost. LITM seems like a perfectly fine bar as does Skinner's, White Star, etc. Have you checked the crime blotter in Hoboken lately? Drunk d-bag smashing windows at City Hall, guy punches girl in face etc. Is that really what you want? A bar on every corner would mean complete disruption of our neighborhoods and 99% of them would fail. Get up off your lazy ass and walk a couple extra blocks to Newark or Grove and stop your whining and pipe-dreams.

Hey Kyle, the only other places that come to mind are Lucky 7's and the Iron Monkey that have band nights. I'll be honest, there isn't really any good music spots in downtown. There are places that have bands, but they're all small places that just kinda set up a PA and have people play in the corner. If you can get a show there, I think Maxwells in Hoboken is hands down the best place around.

I don't think slow and apathetic are strong enough words to describe what it's like to check out at the Shop Rite. I wouldn't suggest going there.

Ever.

For anything.

No matter what.

Not to mention you might come back and find your car has been towed illegally even though you were shopping at the Shop Rite.

And in an effort to be helpful, if you can get over to the A&P by the Holland Tunnel, I've always enjoyed my shopping experiences there.

I've always dreamed of a minor league affiliate in downtown JC. I even thought the location below would be a stellar location, with a lite rail stop on the corner, with the stadium positioned to face downtown NYC and the Statue Of Liberty. And I think it could fit a small stadium. Obviously it's not going to happen for many reasons (land acquisition, territorial rights, market saturation, cost, etc), but if anyone with about 5-10 million dollars to burn is thinking about it, it might be worth thinking about!

I think it'd be perfect if the city could regain ownership of it and then just do nothing with it. Just let it be what it is, a unique historical element of the neighborhood. With Hamilton Park reopening, and with Benson and Jones parks nearby, the area is not in dire need of another park. Not to mention that it'd be hard to stomach the costs that would go into building any sort of park on the site (street level or elevated) at this time.

If you don't like their "regurgitation" then take it up with NJ.com, leave me out of it.

Those two are scum. He harassed my girlfriend when I was inside 24/7 and I came out to him literally yelling at her to let him "borrow" a cigarette. Not really sure how you borrow a cigarette. And she was sitting on the bench nodding off with a broken bottle (bar fight style) in one hand.

Needless to say, I was happy when they removed that bench from in front of that store.

I think a class action would be a good idea because it might achieve some tangible results and change to the process. But the problem with it is that if they sue the pants of off the city financially, it's all going to be paid for by the taxpayers anyway.

Closed wings restaurant sues Jersey City over delays in opening

Published: Wednesday, October 20, 2010, 11:23 AM
Mark Maurer/The Jersey Journal

The owner of the Jersey City franchise of Atomic Wings has sued the city and a construction code official, alleging there was discrimination in the permitting process that long-delayed the restaurant?s opening, the Jersey City Independent reports.

The restaurant was rumored to open two years before it actually served chicken at the Newark Avenue and Bay Street address in July 2009, reports said. In August of this year, the restaurant shut down and was replaced by Bon Chon Chicken.

Owner Randy Catlin argues that delayed approvals and a delay opening led to its demise, reports said.
The city initially tried to get the suit dismissed, but a judge denied the motion, and the matter will now proceed in court, reports said.

The City Council recently approved a contract with Secaucus-based law firm Chasan, Leyner & Lamparello to represent the city in the legal battle, reports said.
Spokeswoman Jennifer Morrill told the Independent ?the Healy administration seeks to help small and large businesses who wish to operate in Jersey City.?

Re: Sprint cell phone coverage in JC

I went from Blackberry, briefly to Palm Pre (both on Verizon) and then to the EVO. I really don't have any complaints, it's fast, the screen looks awesome, the camera is solid and it's an Android phone so it's got tons of apps. I've never used the Samsung or iPhone, so I can't say with certainty how it compares. One big selling point was that the monthly cost of the EVO is much lower than anything on Verizon or the iPhone. They do stick you with the additional $10 premium data fee (stupid), but at the end of the day I pay about $85 for unlimited calls, unlimited data, unlimited messaging, phone insurance, and everything I need.

I'm also a Sprint customer with the EVO. My service (downtown) is exceptional. In my house I have full 4G service at almost all times. Around the metropolitan area I really haven't had any problems, only the occasional dead spot as I go west, but a dropped call is very rare.

The EVO is an awesome phone, I'm really happy with it. I get lots of compliments on it from other Android users and also lots of iPhone users (which says a lot). The only suggestion I have is to take the time to work with the settings so that you maximize battery life. A lot of the default settings (like the GPS) are set to be a drain on the battery.

I've always loved the idea of a place that does something like a street foods of the world type place. Somewhere that does everything from pizza to hummus to tacos to fish and chips, etc. All the staples of different countries and cultures, but all stuff that is relatively inexpensive.

I think Heights made the more legitimate point. Why is this ambulance parked along a residential street for hours on end? I'd like to know if it's common practice/protocol or if somebody is parking their ambulance in front of their house and hanging out in their living room while they are on the clock.

Can anyone with actual knowledge of this (and not just an opinion) offer some clarification? I know ambulances don't just patrol the streets like cops, but I'd imagine there is some standard for where they can and should be while on call.

Does anyone know what the protocol is for ambulances? Are they supposed to be located in specific locations or do they just need to be on call?

I used to live in that part of Bayonne and enjoyed it a lot. It's relatively quiet for an urban area, much much safer than the area of jersey city you mentioned (police headquarters and town hall are right around the corner). Plus Broadway in Bayonne is a really decent strip, most anything you would need is within a short walk of there, including light rail stops.
