I remember in CA the Arby's chains had a similar setup to this. The only interaction with a person was handing them cash, if you were paying that way, and picking up your food. I preferred it this way and always wondered why more restaurants didn't go this route.

the bike rack at city hall has abandoned bikes that have been there for months

Report them through the RRC app or call their number (201) 547-4900. At the market this past weekend next to city hall I saw a small group of used bikes. It looked like they recondition old bikes for sale. Anyone know who they are? Maybe they could use some of these old bikes for parts or as a base to rebuild.

I gave my report of abandoned bikes a couple days to make it's way through the system. If you provide an email address you are emailed a link where you can check on the status of your report. The website says my report was transferred to the police department for review. I think it was transferred to the police because the app doesn't have an option for abandoned bikes, so I chose abandoned vehicle.

A few days later and the rusty frames are still there. I called the RRC, left a message and got a call back the same day. They said the report had been transferred to the parking authority, but she didn't know why and that wan't the right place for it to go.

She said she was going to transfer it ti the DPW, as they are the people with the tools who can cut the bike locks. I'll give it a few more days and see if they old bikes are removed.

tl;dr call the RRC and follow up on any reports you make through the app. It makes a difference.

If it's after 10pm why not first talk to the people making the noise and ask them to respect you, the neighborhood, and noise ordinances by keeping it to a dull roar. If that fails calls the cops. If they get enough noise complaints there may be a clause in their lease to kick them out. You should also be documenting times and noise levels. You can download an app the will tell you what the decibel levels area.

Reported the problem through the app. Thanks!

Abandoned bikes at the Grove St. PATH station

Who do I talk to about having abandoned bikes Grove street removed? The sign says that any bike left for more than 24 hours will be considered abandoned and removed. I think that may be a little much, but there are some rusting frames missing most of their parts that need to go. Now that it's warmer and more people are riding bikes (which I think is awesome) I would like to make sure there is space for people to lock up.

All sarcasm aside, the last thing our piss poor infrastructure needs is more high density towers. Our combined sewer system can' barely handle the population we have now. You think the PATH is crowded now? Wait till all the towers under construction are finished. Sometimes the trains are so packed by the time they leave Grove St. People at Newport can't get on.

I'm all for developing DTJC , but developing has to mean more than building more high rise towers.

Newark airport to undergo major runway rehab project

If you notice mire airplane noise the next two months, this is why.

Article

A major 60-day rehabilitation project will begin this week at one of Newark Liberty International Airport's major north-south runways.
Star-Ledger file photo

NEWARK ? A major 60-day rehabilitation project will begin this week at one of Newark Liberty International Airport's major north-south runways.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which operates the airport, says the work will require a temporary change in flight patterns that will bring more planes than usual over communities in Jersey City, Bayonne and Staten Island.

But officials say any resulting community inconvenience may be tempered by the airlines' voluntary 15 percent reduction in scheduled flights over the construction period.

The work on Runway 4L-22R is due to start Tuesday.

It will keep the landing strip in a state-of-good-repair and add high-speed taxiways that will help reduce on-ground plane delays. The work also will create more than 500 jobs and approximately $152 million in regional economic activity.

You do realize that by buying direct you'll be saving thousands compared to what a dealer offer you? I guess you have a point if every manufacturer went to direct sales.

Good point. I also remember GM tried to go down the direct route with the Saturn brand, until they were forced to sell through GM dealerships.

Why can't we have both? Why must it be one or the other? If Tesla is the only game in town selling direct, and it's been working for them, why force them to change?

I envision a world where the consumer has the choice to buy their automobile from either direct from for the manufacturer or froma a dealer. If you buy direct you'd save money upfront, but would most likely have to take your car to a dealer or service center for maintenance. If you bought from a dealer you could pay a little more upfront, but pay a reduced amount for dealer service/ maintenance costs vs. the people who bought direct. Most people could keep their jobs, and there are pros/cons to either choice of where you buy your car.

What's so wrong with letting the free market, and consumer, decide what is right?

Just about a year ago we used her services and we couldn't have asked for anything more for Dr. Barnes. She went at our own pace, explained every step, and answered all our questions. Could not have been more respectful during this particularly difficult time.

Why our do nothing mayor hasn't done this is beyond me. With yet another storm forecasted to drop 4-6 inches tonight, I'm sure we can all look forward to cars parking at 45 a degree angle to the street, cars blocking crosswalks, and 3 feet of ice around the corners.

Yeah I'm know I'm bitching, but it's incredibly frustrating when even the most simple things that could improve our city in a snow storm aren't done.

I see Hamilton Park as a more family oriented area, thus when you go to sell in 5 years that one bedroom layout may not be the best layout for families moving to the area.

I see Paulus Hook as more of an area with singles and couples without children. That one bedroom layout would still work for people looking to buy their first home.

Notice was posted on the city website. Granted the city could have done a better job of notifying people, but how else do you expect them to clear the snow off CC? With the way people were parking on CC I'm surprised this wasn't done sooner. We lost almost an entire lane each way to the snow and cars parked at angles.

United Water News Center

BOIL WATER ADVISORY LIFTED
Jersey City, NJ, Dec 19, 2013, 8:20pm

United Water and the Jersey City Municipal Utilities Authority (JCMUA) announced that the boil water advisory has been lifted in the downtown area of Jersey City and the portion of Bergen Lafayette area that was affected. The advisory was issued on Wednesday, December 18 following a water main break in the area.

?We understand that a boil water advisory disrupts daily routines. We apologize for the inconvenience while we were working to confirm the quality of the water,? said Chris Riat, senior director of New Jersey contract operations for United Water.

?Laboratory test results show that the drinking water quality meets all regulatory requirements,? said Daniel Becht, executive director of the JCMUA. These results were submitted to the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) for verification. Upon reviewing the laboratory data, NJDEP has confirmed that it is no longer necessary for these customers to boil their water.

The following measures are recommended at this time:
? Run water faucets for 3-5 minutes to flush the service connection and interior plumbing
? Empty and clean automatic ice makers and water chillers
? Drain and refill hot water heaters if the temperature is set below 113 degrees Fahrenheit
? Run water softener/cartridge filters through a regeneration cycle or other procedures recommended by the product manufacturer.

You should also check out Eleos Vet. When my cat was dying last year we didn't want to make one last trip to the vet. Dr. Barnes and her assistant came to the house and were very caring, gentle, and went at our pace. They took the body to be cremated (you can opt for common or private). You can even go up to the pet cemetery when they do the cremation to be sure it's your pet you are getting back.

It wasn't the least expensive option, but I wouldn't have done it any other way.
