IMO. people don't want dozen more 40-storie high buildings though.

If the city is changing its plan only a few years into their 30 (or was it 40?) years plan, wonder what's gonna happen next....

It's called a variance they issue it as a loophole around the zoning codes.

At least he had an answer, too bad you didn't remember. I wonder if he knew why different flage flew though. I think former mayor Bret Schundler started the flag raising perhaps to coincide with different ethinic events throughout Jersey City.

I'm sure the IRS would be able to extrapolate earnings from watching their performance for a week or so....

Report the payments to the towing company on your taxes. Then go down to the towing company and request some documents for tax purposes. I did that for retrieving my apartment security. The land lord stated the security deposit was non refundable, when I told her I needed a document for tax purposes she reluctantly gave it back to me. I also knew welfare people that reported their rent on an illegal apartment to the tax department and the owner had to return all the rent money to the renters. I love April 15th.

Since you have a car, next time drive to some place good.

Why eat at Chili's? We're not stuck in the midwest here.

You sure act like it, you "new" Downtown folks think it's an adventure when you travel to another section of the city, Jersey City that is. I'm glad for this reply it shows that some are willing to venture out & about. I'm just wondering about the towns where some of the new residents come from most seem to be from the midwest. Try the Hoboken Shoprite it's nice, calm, and plenty of parking.

But you know, let's not build high rise towers next to PATH stations, because it might ruin the character of under populated neighborhoods.

More bicycle racks and folding bikes would solve everyone's situation.

Shot during 4-on-1 robbery attempt on Danforth Ave.

Friday, March 14, 2008

A Jersey City man was pistol-whipped and then shot in the head late Thursday night on Danforth Avenue, according to police reports.

The 42-year-old victim was taken to the Jersey City Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries following the incident. The man had been surrounded by four "juvenile males" and pistol-whipped before the gun went off and a bullet went into his eyebrow and exited through his forehead, reports said.

A spokesman for the Medical Center, John McKeegan, said he was treated and released.

The victim told cops he was walking on Danforth, between Garfield and Princeton avenues, just before midnight when the group approached and attempted to rob him, reports said.

When he gave them nothing, they attacked him, he told police.

None of the suspects have been identified.

Also, with just 340 cars in the system, the PA is much smaller client than a system like the MTA. When you buy in bulk, you get a discount, so something like the new rail cars will cost more per car than the MTA pays because the MTA buys in larger quantities.

You can't compare one train system to another.

You don't even know the half of it....what about the cost invloved in labor, maintainence, also equipment and materials to sustain the operations in PATH. To keep people working up to their full potential a decent living wage must be conveyed to all Port workers. From pencils, water, and rubber bands to tools, vehicles, computers, and insurance, you're lucky if the 3.3 bill would put a dent in completing the ongoing upgrades nessessary for PATH to be operational. If you remember the crash docking/landing of the Staten Island Ferry let's not have an instant reply of that episode due to lack of funds. For every action there's a reaction. In relation to waste disposal what you bring with you, you are expected to take with you. You are not permitted to eat or drink anything consumable on the PATH trains so why would you have anything to discard in the first place. So that leaves just newspapers, do you actually expect PATH to provide garbage cans just for that? What ever you have on your person should have been discarded prior to the PATH possibly where the it originated. Remember if it has to be thrown out it is probably a distraction anyway. Security is a number one a priority that should supercede all options.

I don't think having trash cans will make that big of a difference. There are just certain types of people who will litter, even if there's a garbage can a few feet away. Look at the Grove Street area - there are plenty of garbage cans on the corners, but I've seen people just toss crap in the street. The weekday commuters generally seem to be more considerate and will cart their trash off the train with them. Some may leave their newspapers on the seat, but that's not a big deal. On the weekends, though, the cars can be downright disgusting. People will leave soft drinks under the seats, they'll spill and the floor will become this sticky mess.

There's no comparison with trash receptacles on the street and those in the train stations. That's comparing random people walking on the street to commuters, one differs from the other.

The VIP it's relaxing, spacious, food is good & reasonably priced. The wait staff knows when to come by your table and when to leave you alone. They're not running around crazy like they do at the Couch House. Since they renovated that place their prices have shot up. The VIP has an atmosphere that reminds me of an urban city where people can be to themselves. Parking is also great.

It adds about 5-10 minutes to my commute but when you factor in the time that it takes to warm up a car it's not that big of a difference.

I have to say that I have been on my bike on sidewalk on certain JC streets. I'd rather live than violate a bicycle law

You're darn safer on the walk than the pavement, plus its Jersey City so don't worry. And yeah by the time you warm up your car you would have already warmed up your body on a bike. I have the perfect garb for winter riding, such as: a base layer shirt, thick long sleeve bike shirt, bike fleece pull over, paper thin wind treated bike jacket, an actual insulated roomy bike jacket. This along with bike thermals, wind treated bike pants, long wool sox, & bike shoe booties or wind treated toe warmers, thick winter bike gloves, wind treated helmet cover, ear muffs preferably the 180's, a neck warmer gator, and clear lens glasses so your eyes won't tear. Wind treated meaning wind resistant Cold what cold!

The W.T.C. has elevators from the PATH trains all the way up to Church St. I responded to this same thread last year so look for it. I recommend Dahon it's a good starter folding bike I have one, I also have the Brompton. I use the Brompton in the summer time when wearing shorts, the Dahon when I'm suited up with colder weather garb. Plus the Dahon is comfortable with a big cushey seat, rack bag, and little gadgets to make the commute much better. The Brompton is just a bounce around bike. There is also Bike Friday which is good if you want to replicate your road bike, good for distance/road racers that travel. If you are willing to pay twice at the turnstile then just drop the bars send the bike through then put yourself through.
