I planned to check out the Brennan Coffee House performance by folk artist Antje Duvekot earlier this month, but I missed it because I was out of town.

Did any JCListers out there make it to the show? Or have any of you checked out past Brennan Coffee House performances? Just curious to know what they're like.

I was there and Anjte's performance was wonderful. I love the atmosphere there, just like a 60's coffee house. Being held under the Teddy Conrad Rotunda with painted angels cascading on the ceiling like the Sistine Chapel and the black draped entrances fortressing round tables and chairs feel just right the acoustics are excellent. Having wine, water, coffee, & tea with homemade snacks for a dollar donation completes the setting. Parking is terrific you can use the courthouse lot or park on the street meters are not in effect after 6 pm. After the show is over the open mic segment begins. Thank your county executive Tom DeGise he's a big fan of folk music. I saw Jonathan Edwards, and Tom Rush there just to mention a few. I'll see you there Friday June 20th for the next gig.

Hmmmm........a Jersey City cop acting like a colossal ignorant a-hole for no good reason? Hard to believe.

(insert sarcasm here)

As far as the cop is concerned he should have stated he was on duty and to engage in answering the inquiry would have distracted him from monitoring the safety of the area; but not in so many words of course. Or he could have stated " oil spill". I had a cop give me a cut & dry answer to what was happening.

I was wondering why there was sand all over the street. It was cooking oil?? Why would a restaurant dump oil in the middle of a street? That cannot be true.

Maybe the hired help "incharge" of handling discarded cooking oil tried to cut corners and took a shortcut in disposing of said oil.

Best one I've seen this week was this morning while I was crossing Jersey Ave from Mercer St. The red light was backed up, and a car heading up Jersey (towards Columbus) stopped so as not to block the crosswalk. I was crossing in front of that car, almost to the sidewalk, when out of nowhere, a woman who wasn't even in a lane came up on the side of that car trying to cut them. I guess she was feeling generous, though, because I received an angry gesture that indicated I could continue to the sidewalk.
...I guess it's better than the other week when I was cursed at by a driver for crossing on a walk signal at Jersey and Columbus because they wanted to make a turn.

These are the times I wish I was a cop....pull over !

Car insurance is the most expensive in the state of New Jersey. Apparently some have money and driving reputations to burn.

Get everything in writing, you're going to find out later when you write the check. How else are they going to get their money without stating the fee of the "moan meant". It's not a shame it's a sham.

Anyone who has ever tried to get any work done on their place knows that JC is corrupt. The only thing that surprises me is that the guy didn't take the bribe. But as mentioned before, it is probably because it is too low. You all can defend them all you want, but the truth is there are many many people on the take in JC and Hoboken including the people you have to go and complain to.

Seems that the glass is half empty in your world. Don't limit it to just J.C. & Hob. it's all of Hudson. And bravo to the inspector who didn't take the bribe. I think it's only a few that are on the take. I for one would have ran to the authorities and exposed this phony who offered the bribe. I'm actually glad he offered it so he could get his just due.

I just wanted to post my recent experience at Taqueria.
We arrived with 3 adults and 3 kids. Two 4 yr olds and one 18 mth old.
As soon as we arrived the waiter showed us to the corner table next to the speakers.
I said, "the music is really loud, can we sit somewhere else?" He said, "no".
I said, "if we can't sit somewhere else can you turn the music down?" He said, "no".
Then I asked for a high chair. He showed us where they were. We got the high chair ourselves and it was disgusting. Caked on with food.
I said, "can you clean off the high chair?" He grabbed a dry cloth, ran it over the top of the chair and turned to walk away.
I said that it needed to be really cleaned, it was covered with grease and filth.
He didn't clean it.
We decided to leave because at this point the experience had fully been spoiled.
We told the manager at the counter why we were leaving and he just shrugged his shoulders.
I will never return to Taqueria.

Report them to both health departments the one in J.C. and the other in Hudson County. This place is bizzare they must get customers that accept or are ignorant to anything around them, I am so glad you left the place. The tell tale signs were there and you adhered to them. I can't believe how adament they were at the restaurant....no, no, no, and the dirty cloth to boot. And why would you place speakers next to the chairs. I find this a lot in establishments and not just the volume but the tempo as well, not good for eating or digesting. I think people today are either immune or just accept their surroundings without protest. A good way for marketers to cloud the mind with clutter. I bet thewaiter along with the manager don't get paid enough to care; probably annoyed with life itself. They shouldn't work in a people oriented enviroment. Trouble is the pay rate and attitude never coinside.

I realize trees do grow, but holey-moley, can't something be done about the sidewalks on Varick? Just fantasizing...

If it is the tree uprooting the sidewalk then call the Division of Parks & Forestry in the J.C. Dept. of Public Works. (201) 547-4449 The city will be responsible to shave the roots just as they trim the trees. But the home owner must reserve 3 days out of their time. On day 1 the home owner must remove the sidewalk area covering the unleveled area to expose the roots. On day 2 the city moves in and shaves the roots. On day 3 the home owner replaces the sidewalk area.

It probably could have been a city official that noticed your walk wasn't up to code. They might have created a paper trail by writing a work order and conveyed it to the proper city agency assigned to the jurisdiction of handling that code.

Go to the deeds & mortgages section at the Hudson County administration building on 595 Newark Ave. You can keep back tracking till you find the original owners when the house was first built. Also if you go to the County tax dept. on Pavonia Ave across the way to the rear of the Cnty. Admin. build. you can get the book & page # to guide you in deeds & mortgages.

Will this tie in with the pre Vatican II Latin Mass ?

Full choir with chamber orchestra will sing Haydn's Missa Brevis, No. 7 in B Major this Sunday at 10:00 AM. Holy Rosary is at 344 Sixth Street. A special shout out to BrightMoment, Cankicker, and TRP3 who are all warmly invited to this Pentecost Mass that celebrates the birth of the Church.

Also called the little organ mass for the way in which the organ accompanies the soloist during the Benedictus. This is a joyful and beautiful work that telescopes the prolix Gloria and Credo while extending the Kyrie, Sanctus and Angus Dei during the liturgical action. Hymns and chants ancient and modern will also be sung. The men's schola will sing the propers from the Liber Usualis, that font of Western Music.

See you there. Bring a friend. And btw, we are always welcoming new singers.

People will be able to afford them. A lot of global dollars will keep the economy lifted. Investors would not be building if they didn't have sound financial vision. It is becoming a psudeo gated community. This development will not seize till all land is exausted.

Just how many firefighters do we have that failed the psycho test and were able to still join? I bet a big fat zero.

The deed he did was good, but had nothing to do with being a firefighter. If you failed, you shouldn't wear the uniform and be called a firefighter - nepotism at its finest

But if he did bad then you would recognize him as a fireman. By the way I hope it's a big fat zero that means that either all have passed or none were able to join.
