Good one! But I think she's not seeing it. I'm a little curious what bathroom she referred to in her original post. Do you think that bathroom where she's finding those liquor bottles and homeless people in that smells like a public bathroom is in her own house or would that be a public bathroom that she's hanging out in?

Good one? I guess I'm not getting it? Was there a joke there? I said JSQ smells like a pubic restroom, and it's in the restroom inside JSQ (you know, the only bathroom there) where I'm finding liquor bottles....well, airplane size liquor bottles....just gotta get that little taste I guess.

It was most definitely a joke. So where is this one bathroom in Journal Square that you frequent and get accosted by the homeless riff-raff so often? I want to make sure I avoid it.

Yes, it was a joke intended to point out that you don't need to be a homeless drunk to holler at a lady and it might even be warrented? And no, I'm not trying to find a date on JClist.
But seriously, stay safe and I hope it works out for you.

Went in once, took in the very corporate crowd and the lackluster beer list and the pretty boring decor, and left. Not my kind of atmosphere. I think we went to Barcade instead. Their beer selection (and music choices) are second to none in the hood.

The music can be hit or miss. I've been in there when it's been good and awful. Yes, Barcade's is better.
But with 40 craft beers on tap, how can you honestly say it was lackluster? I'd be willing to bet that on any given day they have half the same craft beers as Barcade.

Wednesday night there was a band playing at Grove St. The stage was smack in the center of the plaza and the crowd in front were completely blocking access to the or from the PATH station. I was forced to walk along the building where Duane Reade is but another truck and a group of Spanish gentlemen, possibly inebriated, were congregated backstage, once again blocking my ambulation. Seemingly oblivious to my presence, I had to ask them to make way three times.
All this at the rush hour peak.
I have also noticed this on Fridays with that market or whatever it is, the stalls are set up so you are forced to walk through a narrow section, presumably in the hope that they will make a sale.
I'm all for improving the cultural life of this city but we have to remember that most people who live here and pay taxes do so because of the close proximity of Manhattan. Free and easy access to the city should not be sacrificed for some small time art events.
I think the front of city hall would make a much better place for this type of thing.

This can't be real.

Should I be freaking out and calling the cops over ever box and bag and garbage can I see around town? "In the wake of three persons killed the day before yesterday in Boston" doesn't mean we should leave common sense behind and lead our police on wild goose chases for every dumb thing we see.

I don't want to think about the obnoxious lines that would be in that place. There would be a cattle corral line up just to get in the store. I have visions of depression era bread lines. I get disgusted when I see ten people waiting outside of wonder bagels.

A new fish monger, a higher end butcher, small gourmet foods store (like Hourglass fine foods was) and a cheese shop is what I'd like.

The average salary in the zip code where this CrossFit will be (07302) is not $25k. CrossFit's target demographic lives in the Grove Street area.

Like I said good luck with that, When high end stores open downtown they are closed within a year, because most people down there can not afford it and those who can afford it (people with money) don't like spending it in Jersey City. If you all like spending money on high end items like you claim, Made with Love would be still thriving.

They seem to be doing ok. They already have a pretty solid membership base and are bringing in 15-20 new members a month.

A Jersey City man lost more than just a game of basketball after he was robbed by two boys in Hamilton Park yesterday, police said.

The man, 18, of Steuben Street, said he was playing basketball in Hamilton Park around 6:30 p.m. yesterday when he was approached by two boys, who asked him to use his cell phone, reports state.

When the victim refused, the two boys held him down, grabbed his Samsung Galaxy 2 and fled the park walking east on 9th Street, reports state.

Police are still investigating the incident and anyone with information is asked to call (201)-547-JAIL.

Just ate here with my wife and another couple. It was probably the worst dining experience that I've ever had in Jersey City. The waiter and the kitchen had no concept of courses. I ordered Pho as a starter and seafood with noodles as a main course. My dining companions also ordered appetizers and entrees. To start, two people were served appetizers while the other two got nothing. Then my wife was served her main course (a very expensive lobster) alone. Then immediately after, the other entrees were served and my wife's appetizer came. I still had no Pho. In the mean time, the servers brought over THREE plates of sprouts and basil, saying "for soup" but no soup was to be seen anywhere. I still had nothing. Called the waiter over and let him know my extreme displeasure.

He hid in the kitchen for the remainder of the meal. Finally received my entree delivered by a busboy and, of course, 30 seconds later my Pho came which I sent back. When the waiter finally came out of the kitchen, he circled the dining room which only had four active tables, while talking on his CELL PHONE, ignoring my table because he didn't want to talk to me and apologize. The whole meal was a disaster. Never got to taste the Pho, and despite my complaints, nothing was removed from my check. Too bad. Could have been a nice addition to our dining rotation.

But Vietnam was a French colony, surely they know proper dining sequence and service etiquette!

Some of the low-end stores will go, and some will always be here. A mix is good for everybody.

Look at LES in the City, you have fancy new buildings side by side with projects. Live music venues and trendy restaurants on one block, bodegas, community gardens and barbershops on the next. The rent-control and subsidized housing isn't going anywhere, and the same goes for JC.

Newark Ave is gritty and that's not a bad thing. It's only a matter of time before some cheap stores leases end and higher end tenants will definitely follow. Unfortunately some long time residents and store owners will eventually be priced out.

However there will always be a place for bodegas, barbershops and cheap late night eats Downtown. There is much more rent control around here then some new residents realize, and there's nothing wrong with that. We need to keep flavor and culture and the only way to do that is have rich and poor side by side. Otherwise the neighborhood would be all yuppie transplants from the Midwest and trust fund babies. They keep can all that nonsense over in Park Slope, I like where we are headed....

I would take bodegas or barber shops over what we have now - numerous 99 cent stores. It's tacky, doesn't help the community, actually makes the neighborhood less appealing to those who want to move here, and I question the quality of the products sold there.

You think you're being so "nice" by arguing for these 99 cent stores and stores with the name "cheap" in them in staying open, you minus well be arguing for the gas pipeline. These stores ruin communities as much as the gas pipeline will ruin JC.

Please tell me how being able to get a birthday card in spanish for .99 or a roll of toilet paper for .79 on my walk home from the path is the same as backing the pipeline.

Easy.

No one wants to live near a major pipe. No one wants to live next to numerous 99 cent stores.

No one wants to visit you if you live next to a major pipe. No one wants to visit you if you live in a neighborhood with numerous 99 cent stores.

Major gas pipes reduce property values. Numerous 99 cent stores reduce property values.

Major gas pipelines do not better a community and the same for 99 cent stores.

If you really want JC to improve, you would not want those 99 cent stores. Actually, why don't you just order directly from China - buy direct.

Dunno doctor. I shop high end and I shop low end. Growing up poor, you learn to appreciate certain affordable things. I'm not buying my shoes or toothpaste at discount stores (and don't look down on those that do) but I'll keep getting my dishtowels there.
I apologize if some of DTJC doesn't fit in with your wetdream of it all being just like PH and Newport. I feel sorry for people whose friends don't visit because of the .99 stores.

I have no problem coexisting with the everything the way it is downtown or how it was ten years ago.
