Maybe the two bars on this street should be forced to hire armed police. Maybe there should be a "bar area" that way the City could beef up security.

I'm happy to hear that the liberals say give him 15 years. The thug is not only lazy, he is a danger to society. There's nothing wrong with being lazy or a bum on the street if you are not hurting anyone else.

And I say what's wrong with the 3 strikes law. Criminals should know that there will be consequences for their malicious actions.

Where is Mr. Fulop on this matter? How about Mr. Corzine?

Give the thug 15 years in prison. It's time to teach the criminals that crime doesn't pay. Keep the thugs off our streets. I am awaiting the liberal reply. Oh no, locking criminals away doesn't deter/stop crime, so let them walk the streets, yada...yada...yada

I remember the Soviet leaders in the bad old days with their USSR pins. Funny, isn't it? I guess the conservatives want their president to tow the Party line.

Re: Direct NYC Bus Service On Palisade Avenue

How can you blame the jitneys for stealing passengers from the Red & Tan lines. It seems to me that NJ idea of mass transit is flawed and favors cars. Mass transit should be cheap to encourage the widest possible use (look at NY's which is heavily subsidized), while NJ's mentality seems to be to seek to cover the costs which makes those Red & tan lines expensive.

Sure, there is exploitation everywhere and the jitney driver should probably be unionized and better regulated, but it seems to me that the many people are just sour apples.

Those jitney vans are absolutely vital not just to Jersey City, but for the Union City, Weehawken, North Bergen, Paterson, Clifton as well.

Stop blaming the jitneys for all the problems. NJ transit buses break down all the time. And did the City or the Community ever approach the jitney cooperative about increasing service along palisade Ave to Port Aythority; each jitney is independently owned.

Maybe the City should give a subsidy to the jitneys to run service into Port Authority along Palisade.

Don't blame the jitneys. The jitneys provide a valuable service, especially since NJ has failed to build sufficient mass transit to move people around.

I wonder why NJ Transit just doesn't operate a service along Palisade Ave from JSQ to Port Authority.

I think with corzine that the ridiculously low tolls should be raised, but HHealy doesn't deserve 1 dime - he's lied ((IMHO) and squandered tax payers money.

Why not just ask the jitney vans to increase service to 42nd street.

I agree that Jersey City Heights is a working class neghborhood; it is also improving in my opinion.

I also agree that crime is out of control in Jersey City, in general, and it is a problem in the Heights. I blame the useless Democrats and the liberal judges who don't keep the thugs and felons in jail where they belong.

Cunningham really did shake up the cozy relationship between the politicians and the developers. That's why the Democratic machine couldn't stand him. Sad things is that the Republicans are just as bad as the Democrats. The Democarts are corrupt, IMO, but it seems tat Republicans have a corner office in the headquarters of "Developers Inc."

The Heights from Ogden to Central from Faklin to Congress is a nicer part of the Heights and has easy transporation to Manhattan and Hoboken.

I think Jersey City should push to make this more than just a freight railroad, they should run passenger service between NJ to Brooklyn/lower Manhattan if they ever build that raillink to JFK.

We have a good and thoughtful governor. Road tolls should have been raised a long time ago; Hopefully, that money could be used to fund more mass transit

I would start court proceddings for eviction immediately. You can go the houing court and get forms. The housing court is located on Newark Avenue in the Journal Square area

I know from first hand observations. I'm not saying all, but many. and why am am ahole? Because I dare to speak the truth? Please give me a freaking break. Obviously slavery was wrong but I think that most of the people shouting for apologies and reparations would make better use of their time making sure that their children went to school and studied.

Actually, I think we need more prisons. Lock away the thugs for the rest of their lives! Why hire more cops to arrest the bad people, if the bad people are only going to be back on the streets in a matter of time.

I think people like me are realist and realize that the City has to raise money somehow. There are services that residents consume that need to be paid for. If property taxes aren't going up that much, then the City needs other revenue sources.

Stop the hyperbole! No one is talking about a 100% tax. I'm not even sure it is 1%. Big deal! Is paying 1% really going to stop anyone from selling a house. Some people can be so petty.
