Re: 1 more murder victim in Jersey City in 2009

Home away from home

The biggest problem is that Mayor Healy has yet to seriously address the crime issue we have in Jersey City, yet he will go out and state crime is down.
Healy totally neglects parts of Jersey City. Healy promised 4 years ago promised to make Jersey City safe, he has not kept his promise and is making the same promise again, he is a joke when it comes to crime.
I'm sure the criminals want Healy to win so they can continue to prey on the citizens of Jersey City.

We need to do in Jersey City like we did in Iraq...we need a SURGE..By that I mean a surge of police another 500-1,000. Police every block, double and triple up on the higher crime zones...hell the Jersey Journal mapped out all the high crime areas. Criminals in Jersey City need to be put on notice, that criminal activities will not be tolerated in Jersey City.. Let's drive the criminals, gangs and drug dealers out of out city. I don't want to hear shit about we can't afford to hire more police...Public Safety must be the number one issue on the Mayor's and our elected official's agenda, otherwise they are fit to serve the citizens.

We can only hope that the citizens of Jersey City realize that Healy is not a good Mayor...either he does not understand the issues or just really does not care. As for reading from the notebook, I was at the debates for the Ward C candidates, Team Healy candidate was reading word for word from the script they gave her...not once did she look up the audience.
I almost must wonder if we end up with 4 more years of Healy what Jersey City will end being like...Like Afghanistan is a haven for terrorist, Jersey City just might become a haven for Criminals, its close enough to it already.

Yep his campaign manager knows what he is doing. Healy surely can't debate on records with issues such as crime and taxes...He has failed on those issues.

Nice Work...this is great stuff....this is how you attack crime...It would be great if this would be a regular occurrence that would help rid a lot of crime in Jersey City. I really hope it's not only about the election, but my gut tells me it is.

wibbit, not sure what your problem is, but crime is a serious issue and this is what this section is all about..So however we can get citizen's attention and hopefully build a forum, debate whatever it takes for us to make our elected officials do their job and address the crime issue.
I don't hate Healy, just the poor job he is doing as out Mayor.

Elvis, funny how I can point out a fact that rather than address the crime issue our Mayor would take the easy way out and relocate the little leaguers. Why don't you say something of sense...I'm not shrilling for anyone...I'm not sure which candidate I'm voting for as for me it's between two them and one of them is not Healy.
I did vote for Healy and supported him last time...he fooled us into thinking he would be a good Mayor. Personally I have nothing against, Healy, he is a nice guy, and funny, especially with a few drinks in him..
But a Mayor, where are those promised from last time, more Police on the Street...Lower Taxes to name a couple of promises...same promises again...fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me...

It would be great if you really had something to say, but obviously you can only say your lame ass stuff when someone voices an opinion and is not afraid to hold our elected officials accountable.

Get a life ..Elvis is a thing of the past.

So Mayor Jerramiah Healy said he'll help the Little Leaguers relocate. Well they would not have to be relocated if Violent Crime was really down. Why in the hell don't Healy handle the crime issue. If not for an election year he would have no interest in the little leaguers.

I guess Healy is taking the easy way out, rather than address the true issue, the crime and shootings, relocate the little leaguers. I guess that is just more change we can see!

Ward F citizens feel ignored, except at election time
Home away from home
Home away from home

F or Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah Healy to win another four years in office, he needs votes from the city's black voters.

Last week, Healy received the endorsement of state Sen. Sandra B. Cunningham, widow of Mayor Glenn D. Cunningham. He is also counting on council members Viola Richardson and Willie Flood to bring him Ward F votes.

On Thursday, I accepted the invitation of businessman Bruce Alston to visit some people in the city's black community and get their views on City Hall.

So what do they say about life under this administration?

According to people interviewed, the top two responses from this administration are "talk to my aide," also known as the dead-end, and "the city doesn't have any money."

We stopped at Monique's Techniques hair salon in the McGinley Square area. Monique Smith-Andrews' place was full of activity. Outside, she talked about her neighbors and how they all look out for each other. A few months ago her shop was robbed by a gunman and neighbors were able to finger the culprit.

Smith-Andrews noted that the curbside and street was often dirty and now jammed with papers, but the offending debris was gone. The mystery was solved a few doors down where a neighborhood woman, with a broom and dust pan, was cleaning the sidewalk and curb.

In discussing crime, she and Alston complained about the lack of opportunities for young people, including that "defiant" age, 16 to 25. They lamented the lack of city pools and community centers.

Yes, there is the Mary McLeod Bethune Life Center, but some people call the center "a rental." Space is rented unless, possibly, you are Councilwoman Viola Richardson, who has an office in the center.

Actually, some area residents say elected officials would better serve the people of their ward if their offices were in their home district instead of City Hall.

How about term limits for the mayor and City Council members?

"Some of those council people have been there for years," said Smith-Andrews. She also knows trying to get term limits would require a struggle to the death with officials.

One reason for term limits is to bring new blood into government. She and Alston started entertaining the idea of taking part in politics. Alston said he is seriously thinking about running for mayor in 2013.

At a Martin Luther King Drive tavern near the Hub and Extra supermarket, patrons dismissed the idea that this city administration has had any impact on their lives.

"They only come around at election time," one patron said, repeating an often used statement by voters anywhere in the world.

An elderly man reading a newspaper at the far end of the bar was described as a friend of former Ward F Councilman Cornelius Parker. Asked by others to compare this administration with those in the past, the senior's grimaces and gestures said it all.

Like other city residents, people on King Drive believe in the personal approach. Politicians should be able to look citizens in the eye. They should be hands-on.

Stanley the bartender asked if everyone remembers what happened to that "poor woman who lost her baby in the hospital." A half-dozen people nodded.

"No official went to her," said the bartender. "No one asked if they could help her."

It was almost as if no one cared. More later.

This article is so correct, HEALY DOES NOT CARE!!!! IT IS TIME FOR THE CITIZENS NOT TO CARE ABOUT HEALY and DON"T VOTE FOR TEAM HEALY, OR YOU WILL GET FOUR MORE YEARS OF GETTING IGNORED!

Sandra sold out Ward F for favors from Healy to help him with the black vote.

Elvis, I agree with you all my post are about Healy...it's all my opinion of a shitty job he is doing. You won't get argument from me I'm calling Healy and his team out...See I mentioned his name again.

I hope some day to post positive stuff...such as whoever the administration is that they are doing a good, hopefully a great job in addressing crime, ridding us of much of the bad element and making the quality of life better. I want to see Jersey City be a world class city. Is that asking for too much.

Heights..it should not matter where it happened...the Shootings, Violence, Drug and Gang problems must be unacceptable. Our elected officials must go balls to the wall and have a War on Crime....The bad element must be rounded up and taken off the streets...We need to hire 500 or more police, have them on every block attacking crime...
Perhaps martial law...whatever it takes....Crime needs to seriously addressed in Jersey City.

Elvis,

I wish I was getting paid...but then again the could not pay me enough to post...The agency I work for in NYC pays me plenty, in which as I mention I invest back into Jersey City. I am happy to see we both agree that Healy is doing a crappy job...I see you have a problem with me voicing and bitching what I think about the job Healy is doing.

Well I'm the same way at work, if I don't like something, I let it be known. Yes I do ruffle feathers...

Elvis, can't help you don't like the truth about your boy. I'm not schilling for anybody. I want to see Jersey City prosper and be a safe place to live.
I work my ass off..I pay my taxes...I support Jersey City going to Restaurants, shopping, supporting my local grocery store. I could stay in NYC and go to Restaurants there, shop, ect, or go to Hoboken.
I'd rather give back at home and invest in Jersey City...if our elected officials don't make it a better place to live, than I will rethink spending my hard earn money elsewhere.
Do you do anything for Jersey City except for think your boy Healy has done a good job.

Since we have a War out here with Crime, Drugs & Gangs, well it's time for a Mayor with balls to take the war to the criminals.
Lets have a surge of police and put the criminals on notice...The surge worked in Iraq...it will work in Jersey City...we need to attack crime goddammit, enough with BS that crime is down..People do not feel SAFE & in some areas in Jersey City people can't leave there homes. Is this anyway to live....
Is it Manzo, Is it Levin, it sure and hell ain't Healy who will attack crime, he had his chance is the years of being in office...He has failed....
Let's wake up citizens and make this War on Crime happen...

Let's make our elected officials do their job and take care of the #1 problem in Jersey City and attack Crime.

If we attack and chase the criminals out of Jersey City, then Jersey City will prosper....Criminals want a war lets bring it on...and watch them retreat... Healy helps the criminals prosper, not the citizens...go ahead prove me wrong....

Why can't Healy just come out and say it...We have a serious crime, drug and gang problem in Jersey City rather than the BS that crime is down and his administration has the situation under control..Can we really have 4 more years of this. We should just hand the city over to the bad element with Healy as Mayor....they seem to have pretty good control as of now.

GnomeGeneral, who does the police work for..they work for the government...who is suppose to provide the citizens with policing and protection....the government. When you have a Mayor that boasts crime is down is that not saying and showing government is accountable. Unfortunately crime is not down and our Mayor just has not done enough against the growing crime problem. He is got to go and put people will govern and attack the number one issue in Jersey City..CRIME.

I want to see not matter who is running our city go balls to wall and declare War Crime, Drugs, Shootings and Gang problems. We the people must force our elected officials to do so. My problem with Healy and his Team is they have been in office for quite a while and goddammit do not do enough or even attempt to. They have done nothing to deter these problems, they just are growing under the Healy administration.

newheights, i was in no way comparing that our Mayor (won't mention his name as per your request..LOL) to Guiliani...Guiliani, new how to govern and took accountability. People of Jersey City need to wake up and realize our Mayor should not be re-elected, it will be just more of the same, actually probably worse since he will have the job again and care even less about the citizens of Jersey City.

stani, Healy is the one boasting on the great job he is doing regarding crime. Can these crimes be prevented, well if you saw how Giuliani handled crime situation in NYC a much bigger city then Jersey City, than yes if Healy and his administration is serious about crime, then he needs to put troops of police on the street going after these criminals. I'm not sure who I'm supporting. I voted for Healy last time, however he has not proven he is serious against crime, only raising taxes.

There are sections of Jersey City that our Mayor should pull out Martial law....the Crime needs to be attacked, not dabbled in like Team Healy has done.
