Is it safe to walk around at night? Any good food options around? Personal recommendations or anecdotes?

Thanks in advance!

The tacos from here are AMAZING, so good and they rival Taqueria's, only problem is they only use one tortilla instead of 2 so they are messy, but ZERO attitude. The woman who runs it is a sweetheart as is the cook.

Quick story, I brought relatives to Taqueria a few weeks ago, RAVED about there food. My sister had a dunkin donuts coffee with her, they told her no outside drinks or beverages. I get it, I do, but when she asked if they had coffee she could buy they said no, it's the afternoon, no more coffee, she said she would buy a soda, still no dice. Whatever. I'm just low class Jersey City folk I guess.

I THINK THEY ARE FIGHTING ALL CRIME!! DID YOU MISS THIS?

Jersey City police have arrested more than 50 people, including 29 in an investigation into a building cops say was taken over by drug dealers, authorities said.
At a news conference today, police are to announce the results of Operation Summer Shield 2, which included an effort to get the 25 "most significant" parole offenders off the street. Police also focused on what they called notorious open-air drug markets, making five arrests.
In all, 85 people have been charged and 51 have been arrested.
An apartment building at 445 Bergen Avenue became the focus of a police probe when the superintendent was assaulted with a bottle late in March. Police say they found that the building "was under the command and control" of drug dealers, Police Chief Tom Comey said.
"They believed that they could deal drugs with immunity and the residents felt like they were under siege," Comey added.
Over the past two weekends, 41 people were charged and 23 were arrested at and around 445 Bergen Ave. in relation to the probe of the area, cops said, and six others were arrested while police were executing warrants there.
Of the 25 parole violators targeted, 17 have been arrested. At the same time, undercover cops investigating the selling of drugs openly on the street have charged 13 people and arrested five of them, authorities said.
Among those arrested are:
-- Antoin Forester, 23, of Bramhall Ave, charged with possession of 45 vials of suspected cocaine with intent to distribute near a school and public property, and two counts of trespassing at 445 Bergen Ave.;
-- James Williams, 24, of Bergen Avenue, 12-17-87, charged with possession of a community handgun, possession of drug paraphernalia, and two counts of trespasssing at 445 Bergen Ave.;
-- Alterik Ellis, 19, of Lexington Avenue, charged with possession of a community handgun and three counts of trespassing at 445 Bergen Ave.;
-- Darius Burgess, 21, of Bergen Avenue, charged with three counts of trespassing at 445 Bergen Ave.;
-- Parish Burgess, 23, of Bergen Avenue, charged with one count trespassing at 445 Bergen Ave.;
-- Thomas Johnson, 23, of Dales Avenue, charged with possession of marijuana and two counts of trespassing at 445 Bergen Ave.;
-- Laquan Dawson, of Halladay Street, charged with four counts of trespassing at 445 Bergen Ave.http://www.nj.com/hudson/index.ssf/20 ... 50_arrested_in_conne.html

Great. Now we have the hula hoop lady quoting second hand news. The guys don't even know about the dumb blond stereotype here. Next we'll be insulting people in sign language. Which none of us know by the way.

This thread is now officially too laughable.

What's laughable is that the good people of this city feel so desperate for good affordable restaurants that they still go to Taqueria. They do this despite many obvious instances of rudeness and disrespect your management and counter staff have shown to even repeat customers over several years. I've witnessed it and experienced it myself with no provocation.

The reasons are simple: the workers and managers do not like people. Or they don't like certain people. They do not smile. They are not gracious. They are not welcoming of the people who choose to eat there, hand over their money, and help you pay your bills.

I will note that I have never received any attitude from your bussing staff. They seem to be genuine, hard-working people just trying to make their way in the world.

It's also laughable that you describe this city's culture as "classless" when every anecdote indicates its your snobby attitude which provokes every bullshit fight. That you have repeatedly used the word "retarded" on numerous occasions on this blog does not help your credibility as to your classiness. That it seems you have done nothing to express remorse for insulting and debasing your customers and neighbors is the true mark of who's losing the classlessness war. It's you.

But, that's your prerogative. Maybe being friendly and welcoming is really very difficult for you. Maybe being a misanthrope is something you've been doing so long that you can't abandon it now. That's fine. Live how you wanna live. If you don't want to be known for good customer service, that's fine. It's your place. If you haven't taken the hint, dozens of people find it repulsive. I am such a person.

To everyone else: you cannot communicate with people in a language they do not understand. All the owners of Taqueria want is your money. Not your friendship, your moral support, your neighborly attitude, your sense of community, your patience to a fault, or your reviews on Yelp.

None of that stuff matters. Your vocal distaste for their bad attitude hasn't knocked the chip off their shoulder. That you don't eat there anymore is irrelevant, because they have customers aplenty to replace you. It's a simple and sad reality about human psychology that there really is no reaching some people. Further, they have little incentive to embrace human decency and good community relations at this point.

The only meaningful comparison are the politicians and civil self-servants of this city. They are generally low class, scornful, entitled assholes who don't give a shit about you either.

At least 5 killed at Reno air show, authorities say

September 16, 2011 | 6:24 pm

At least 5 people were killed after a plane crashed into the VIP stands at an air show in Reno late Friday afternoon.

The plane crashed near the bleachers at the National Championship Air Races, said Michelle Anderson, a spokeswoman for the Reno Fire Department. The pilot was reported dead, as were four others.

Mike Houghton, president and chief executive of the Reno Air Racing Assn., said at a news conference that 40 to 50 people were injured in the crash. He identified the pilot as Jimmy Leeward, a real estate developer from Ocala, Fla., who has been racing in Reno since 1975.

The full scope of the disaster was unclear. Officials described a scene of chaos as they tried to assess the damage.

"We have five bodies out there, but they transported a whole load to hospitals," Lt. Mac Venzon of the Washoe County Sheriff's Department told The Times. "We're just trying to establish a scene and get everybody cleared out of here, and then we'll know more," he said.

GrovePath is terrified of an airplane falling on his head-you should have been here when he was posting about the Red Bull Air Races.

I am a frequent lover of taqueria. I LOVE the food, the service not so much, I come in for a taco fix and leave. Just a FYI the moby guy hasnt been there for years. They now have a fat nasty Asian looking dork manning the tables. He looks like his mom combed his hair with spit and twigs. I come in a lot and this chub douche always treats me like shit. Always. I'm like dude I was just here, really... P and A are cool people, they should just hire people who aren't assholes to man the place.

No, no more details. The only other info I have is M was in and out of the emergency room in about 90 minutes. I have to say, I honestly believe this was random, no words were spoke and M saw the gun and just sat there quietly crapping himself, Instead of screaming he has a gun or running, he was frozen as I assume I would be as well.. I could be wrong but this dude has been nothing but stellar and a hard worker and great neighbor. And I KNOW this has nothing to do with anything, but since the JJ leaves out race, the shooters were African American and M's family is from the middle east. Take that as you may or rip me a new ass. don't really give a sh$t. Be safe everyone, random crap can happen anywhere.

I live right next door to where this happened, we heard the 3 shots and honestly did not think It was shots fired, we even made a horrible joke of how it was probably our neighbor M who is all up in everyone's business. Sadly our joke was real and he was shot, and thank god he is ok. Just a FYI the police only found 2 casings/bullets, after they left our neighbor who was talking to M when he was shot found the other one with his cell phone light....and had to call the police back. I overhead a cop say "how embarrassing". Anyway it was so random. The weird part is that M told us the guys who shot him were older like in their late 40's not 20's or 30's like this article states.
