Re: towing at shoprite?
Home away from home
Home away from home

I once posted that I'd never use Pep Boys to fix my car. Well, I did a 180 after getting 3 estimates and Pep Boys is, indeed, the lowest.

My plan is to drop the car off and give them the keys so I can get the work done. I plan on going to the mall for a dental appt and new glasses as the work would take too long to wait for it.

My question: How do I keep the vultures, err, I mean, tow operators from swooping down my car? I was thinking of a sign in big red letters that says, "DO NOT TOW!! CAR IS BEING SERVICED BY PEP BOYS!!!"

I'm getting about $600 worth of work done. I DO NOT need the hassle of getting towed on top of that!

I could have sworn that someone posted that they had gotten towed at Pep Boys and Pep Boys lawyers were in site. What became of that?

The one and only time I took the Circle Line was about 30 years ago. I could have sworn they stopped operating. I was so glad to see them in today's rescue!

So so glad there were no fatalities. And Chesley Sullenberger should get a HUGE raise!

WOW!!! WHAT A NAME!!!!

Does SVU still film here? It has to be at least 8 years since I've seen their trailers in my 'hood.

Any news on the location of this year's Soup Swap? I made 4 quarts of Curried Pumpkin soup on New Year's Day. My freezer is at FULL capacity!

Madoff, 70, is under house arrest in his Manhattan apartment on a $US10 million ($A14 million) bail.

He is so far the only person charged in an alleged $US50 billion ($A72 billion) Ponzi, or pyramid scheme in which major banks, ultra-wealthy private investors, universities, charities and Jewish organisations were among the victims."

He's 70 and he's lived the high life. What's the worst that will happen to him? He'll spend the rest of his life playing golf in a minimum security prison. Or, worse yet, a second-tier security prison where white-collar criminals who couldn't pull off a scam as long as he did reside.

It sickens me that charities got taken. It's only a matter of time before we hear about more corruption.

It's called the C.A.U.S.E center, 739 Bergen Avenue.

201-432-2824
201-333-5936

It's just south of Montgomery St. and it's near McKinley square. It's not dangerous or scary there during the day.

They open at about nine and close by two=thirty.

Are they closed on Mondays? I kept calling them this morning and no answer. I decided to take a ride over there around 1PM and both the pantry and thrift store were closed. I wound up donating the food at GVV and St. Lucy's.

I'll give CAUSE another try. I'd really like to help them out.

The Madoff Ponzi scheme is the tip of the iceberg. I'm sure in the next few months more fraud will be uncovered. It's going to get worse before it can get better.

That said, go to Cordero. Ask to speak to the Principal, his name is Mr. Marvin Stryner, he is considered the best principal in Jersey City public schools, (by just about everyone, including his peers and teachers all around the city). I'm willing to bet that even if you walk in there with the descriptions you have, he'll be able to track them down, and put the fear of God into them. ALL of the students respect him in that building, so trust him to handle the situation. If he isn't able to help you, at least he is now aware of the situation and will do everything he can to prevent it from happening in the future, and you'll have done all that you can.

+1. And then some. I live on 8th street. I can't afford to replace a window or a windshield at this point.

I'm all for letting the principal put the fear of God into them.

On a side note about fliers, I had 3 thick, political, glossy fliers stuck to my windshield after a rain storm and a subsequent hot day. I drove to their headquarters (Jersey near Newark) and made them REMOVE them.

Yeah, I can be a C sometimes.

To get back on topic, since I wasn't the only one who's been bothered by that kiosk, I sent an e-mail to

Whether it makes a difference is to be foreseen. I asked if they could tone down the sales pitch.

As I posted before, I will not drop my car off at Pep Boys for repairs anymore. It may be their responsibility if my car is towed, but I REALLY don't want to take the chance then have to deal with all the hassle.

My initial answer is BOTH but I've been living here for 19 years and am too busy to pay attention to either.

BESIDES THAT-- I'd like to pay less property taxes. I bought before it was "cool" so I should pay less.

Jersey City ISN'T an "outer borough.

It's a WHOLE OTHER STATE! If you live here and work in NYC you HAVE TO pay NJ state tax.

I just hate when it's called "NYC's SIXTH borough." It's asinine and completely misleading. JC has very little to do with NYC, other than its proximity and the number of commuters into NYC.

It's $2 or so for the first 2 hours, then it goes up 50 cents an hour (don't quote me, but I'm pretty sure that's the rate). Plus if you are a resident of JC, show your ID at the information kiosk (by the elevators) and they'll knock $1 off your parking.

That doesn't suck nearly as much as having to spend big bucks to get your car once its been towed.

Re: towing at shoprite?

I used to drop my car off at Pep Boys for simple maintenance because it's within walking distance to my house. The last time I went there (about 2 years ago), I got new tires so I left the car there and went to the mall to kill time. (Sometimes I'd drop it off in the morning then walk to the PATH on my way to work).

After hearing these horror stories there is NO WAY I'm taking the chance and leaving my car in the Pep Boys parking lot. It may sit there for a while before the mechanic drives it into the garage. I don't want to deal with the hassle of trying to get my car back if these vultures swoop in.
