Politics is a Rorschach test. While some fear the prospect of the nanny state and liberalism and think the perceived racism, misogyny, xenophobia, homophobia of the GOP is merely incidental, others find it alienating and off-putting and don't want to be associated with it. I also can't decipher what the party stands for besides low taxes, small government, antiabortion, anti gay marriage, anti regulation and anti POC and big defense spending. Republicans are now hosting meetings on how to talk to women and minorities without offending. Even the choice of venue the Biergarten sucks. So can't imagine that many POC, gays or women are remotely interested in sitting down and listening to several slightly inebriated white guys and maybe some white women and an Alan West type from jclist pontificate and proselytize on the merits of the GOP. Could be wrong but think that female sexuality might be more fluid or susceptible to nuance than men who tend to be more visually hard wired? anecdotally there were several women in my undergrad who were gay who are now married with kids etc. and there were a couple of women who were supposedly straight who are now gay. There's merit in what Atsushi is saying and here's the history behind the schism when White Democrats defected and went Republican. It's not a matter of blaming whitey as inartfully stated. It's simply the vestiges of what was done in the past (codifying enshrining white supremacy) over centuries whether in the US, Brazil or other places like South Africa. Also, even when white people dip below 50% in this country, they will just end up sharing some power but won't lose their actual stronghold on it. Look at Brazil where whites are already in the minority and have been for some time but maintain power or South Africa where whites still have power along with a small black elite. I don't buy reverse racism any more than I do heterophobia or reverse sexism. And I think racism applies to more than blacks (e.g, Hispanics who don't pass, Asians, etc.).

I've seen preppy white boys from my college and in my high school engage in egregious behavior (inebriated or not) and it's not deemed pathological and I've seen black and latino kids who dress in hip-hop urban style who are completely nice. I just don't believe in the bifurcation of Ralph Lauren/Abercrombie (good kids) versus Hoodie, pants down (bad kids). I look for other CONTEXT CLUES in addition to how one is dressed, what are they discussing (sports, music versus "let's kick his MF'en ass, son"), are the stares menacing and persistent, are they really unruly, etc. And just because one is black and dresses in J.
