Re: grenade in vacant Jersey City Heights building

love the sensationalism of the article... the odds of it being a "real" grenade are probably less than a zillion to one.

the odds of it being a "grenade" paperweight that could never blow up because it's not an actual grenade... 100%!

we didn't get hit, thankfully, but i hate "tagging" more than just about anything....

a few garage doors on Congress are now a tagged mess....

a few weeks ago our Fire Station (Congress + Palisades) got hit with a giant tag....

also, some new retaining walls were built in people's backyards/cliffs going up Patterson Plank towards congress - impressive work done - and they are all already tagged up....

the elevator gets hit all the time too....

grrrr - i hate taggers!

can she apply based on her credit alone?

when we bought our place, we got it on the strength of my wife's credit (at the time, mine was bad).... if we had included me on the mortgage, it would've been denied....

this story is absurd. and yes, i'm going to "blame the victim" here, but really? going to a guy's house at 12:30 in the morning... and taking your pants off? come on....

sounds like she went there, they fooled around, then she changed her mind....

calling this a "disparaging NYT article about JC" is more than a bit of a stretch... why is it disparaging? because this well off fool said there's "not much happening"? come on....

Plumber recommendations? Need second opinions
Home away from home
Home away from home

Hi Folks,

We're looking for a few more quotes of plumbing work being done in our basement - a new sewer line needs to be run (involves removing some concrete), and a new poop trap needs to be put in....

Any recommendations of honest and good plumbers?

So Dylan came over last night to check out our situation - super nice guy! Recommended NOT doing wood - since we can't confirm all moisture is gone forever.

Will definately call him again when we have the rest of the house refinished....

Didn't realize he's also from the local rockers - The Milwaukees! Pleasant surprise....

So - now that's out of the way, anyone have any recommendations for polished concrete floor people?!?

thanks!

Liberty House is nice but pricey.

Zeppelin Hall now has a nice big private room you can rent - with food options, and it's own bar.... it looks nice, but not fancy....

Brewster,

Don't get me wrong, I think Mason is insane as well - they all are. And yes, any office-holder in Hudson Country has to deal with crazy stuff.

And as for taxes being lowered? I don't know anyone in Hoboken that's seen taxes get lowered (unless they've appealed their property evals).

Other things that irk me about her rule - appointing people to paid positions after not posting a job listing for the job Blowing the contract renewal for the city vehicles. The HUMC debaucle. Not firing the Parking Authority head after he was involved in assaulting a townsperson. Allowing the scumbag cops involved with the Mardi Gras photo scandal to remain on payroll for years collecting money, then allowing giant retirement payouts....

She's over her head and doesnt have the grace to admit it. If you want to be a politician in an important spot like Hoboken, you need tact, and a spine, and the ability to conduct yourself gracefully in the face of adversity. She does not.

And as for her being supported by the citizens of Hoboken... well, they actually supported Cammarino, until he went to jail. Then she took over. Remember, coming in Second Place just means you are the first loser!

Have a good day!

HI NeverLeft!

Yeah - our house is a little over 100 years old, and the existing cement floor exists in most of the basement - and we don't know how thick it is yet... we'll see! Judging by the rest of the house, i doubt that it's too thick - i hope it's not too thick!

Our basement is very dry, with a few small exceptions - exceptions that hopefully the plumber fixing the sewer line with solve!

totally agree with IanMac... Zimmer is not only in over her head, and out of her league, but she hasn't come thru on any of her campain promises, including, but not limited to, transparancy in gov't, budget cutting, etc.

She's also a scumbag. She came to a Mass at St Anne's which was in honor of fireman and policemen, and afterwards began berating our pastor in front of the entire congregation because he didn't thank her by name at the Mass. (he had thanked officials who were there, but didn't name any indivdual name, as it was for the cops and firemen, and not a political event)....

Not to mention that she obviously hates us Irish people......

radiant heating it totally on my radar... it'd be a lot easier (and probably cost effective) to keep the floor slightly warm, than trying to keep the whole basement warm enough that it warms the concrete on it's own!

Hahahaha! That's amazing!

Not as good but close - One day i was walking home and noticed a guy pulling apart our azalea tree (inside our front gate), taking off flowers.

I screamed at him to stop (obviously), and he got all belligerent with me - first saying "no speak english", so i pantomimed why he was going to get his ass kicked for theft, and then, when he realized that I knew he spoke english, he proceeded to tell me he was taking the flowers "for my wife's birthday" (i don't care, douche), and then that "you have too many" flowers.

WHAT?!?! i had too many flowers for myself, and that's why he had the right to steal (and break our tree in the process).

i love jerks!

I agree with Brewster as for the evaluation of a majority of demo for the changes in Hoboken's landscape over the past two decades....

Vigilante - I agree somewhat - but don't agree that the "majority" of Jersey City is heading in the same direction as Hoboken... I think much of the downtown is swinging in that direction, but leave that immediate area and much of the city remains, and will remain the same for a few more generations (in my opinion)....

Hi Brewster,

Yeah, i don't know why, i just hate tiles or slate... just a personal thing. would rather a cool colored and polished concrete floor that we can easily maintain and just throw area rugs down for warmth/coziness....

My hopes / beliefs are that after the plumber gets finished with the sewer / waste water / drainage lines, that moisture underneath the floor shouldn't be a problem (fingers crossed)....

thanks

Re: New floor in basement - recommendations?

Hi HPYC,

Yeah - the people that installed the (crappy) laminate that was there when we moved in put the barrier in there, and there was plenty of moisture, so of course, all the subflooring was rotten....

thankfully, we're getting new sewer / drainage done, so the moisture should never again be an issue...

and yes, i lean towards the polished concrete just for ease of care / cleaning / and just incase the basement ever was to flood again (which it hopefully will never do again, but who knows)....

Of course, none of the concrete folks have returned my calls! (grrr)

New floor in basement - recommendations?

Home away from home

Hi Folks,

We're looking to put floors in our basement - and are throwing around ideas - polished concrete, engineered floors, hardwood, etc... we have an unfunished concrete basement floor to cover...

Any recommedations of contractors / products? Been doing tons of research... haven't heard back from many people i contacted for estimates...

Anyone ever use Dylan Wood Floors? How about buying from Home Depot and having them install it?

Any and all help or suggestions are appreciated!

thanks
JC

Re: PODS on street?

I'd heard the story of the cobblestones being stolen - but never heard the pergola one... amazing!

and yeah, when my nice trash can got stolen, i was very sad. Hell, i had even painted (with a nice stencil) our name and house number on it. I hate people who steal other people's crap!

I hope the PODS thing works out - i saw one a few months ago and realized it'd be much easier to just move crap into it once - instead of doing the room-to-room dance with all the crap!

Hi NeverLeft - yeah, been here a long time (GreatGrandpa was a Hague Boy, Grandpa lived up at an orphanage in Hoboken during the Great Depression, and Dad was born at Christ Hospital)... used to be on JCList all the time but gave it up for a few years 'cause i couldn't deal with all the BS that was taking place on here.

ANd yeah - i'm well aware of the street rules. Thankfully, our street is much safer now than it was when we bought here. Heck, i had a beautiful trash can (sturdy, thick, with wheels...) that got stolen (full of trash) right after I got it!

Thankfully, these PODS units are very strong, and don't expect anyone to be able to get into it. Having said that, i'll absolutely be photographing everything that's going in there. Thankfully, 99% of it is just crap that my hoarding tendencies refuse to let me discard!

And thankfully, i'm only going to have all my crap in the POD for a day or two while the floors get re-done....

thanks for the good luck wishes!

Ten bucks a day for a permit, all need is a photo ID, and pay with money order.

i said to the (very pleasant) woman on the phone "that's it? it's that easy?" and she said "Yep, in jersey city... can you believe it?"

ha ha!

PODS on street?
Home away from home
Home away from home

Hi Everyone, i searched to find any possible answers, but couldn't find any... so i'll ask here.

I want to put a PODS container on the street in front of my house for two weeks - http://www.pods.com/ - as i need to empty the house to put new floors in.

My question - can i get a permit to have a PODS unit on the street for two weeks? I see dumpsters on the street for months, so i figure there may be a way.

Does anyone have any helpful advice?

I feel like if I call the Parking Authority, based on past experience, i'll get nowhere....

Thanks in advance!
