Re: Any Labradoodle Rescues nearby?
Home away from home
Home away from home

A lot of times, the "doodle" rescue dogs are first generation mixes and the "slightly curly, but shaggy labs or golden retrievers will be available; they are not multi-generation labradoodles. They're up for adoption because these furry pups will shed and aggravate the allergies.

Dogs with hair - not fur - will be your best bet, no matter the breed. They will need regular grooming because the hair keeps growing, not shedding. My niece is allergic to the fur and saliva, so no matter what dog I have she'll be slightly miserable.

I have often heard people say on this forum that the street sweepers do nothing but spread around the litter, but I disagree based on what I've seen. Our streets are pretty clean. Did you ever go to a city that doesn't have a street sweeping program, like Philadelphia? Even in nice neighborhoods, there is a ton of litter all over the place. I'll take regular street cleaning.

Over in the warehouse/PAD area there are only five blocks with street cleaning - and it shows. Those with street sweeping are noticeably cleaner. The rest look shoddy and trash stays in the gutter for months at a time because property owners don't pick up the trash or weed trimmings. Just look at how dirty the streets get when there's snow piled up - so much trash and dirt piles up over a short period of time.

We also have cars that park for weeks in the same spot - one was here for six months - submerged during Sandy - it was left rotting. We couldn't get anyone to tow it away because its permit was valid. Pressure from parking authority that it would not be renewed when it expired - the owner finally did the right thing and had it towed away. If we had street sweeping, the tickets on the car would have made the tow happen within weeks, instead of six months.

Re: Can't get Parking Permit?
Home away from home
Home away from home

The larger redeveloped buildings (no backyards or parking garages) in the PAD can get permits, but it's impossible to find a place to park during the day and evenings because so many commuters and people jumping on to the Path park their cars in area. Bar and restaurant patrons suck up space too. But then you add the folks that live in the buildings with parking garages also parking on the street overnight making it harder to find a spot.

Too much random vandalism because the streets aren't lit on every block and if you leave the neighborhood in the middle of the day you can't find a place to park when you come back. Add four active construction sites - we have lost entire blocks of parking spaces - a nightmare!

We gave up and got a spot in a garage.

fat-ass-bike - thanks for the pointer on time discrepancy.

FYI - booting on first time offense is illegal. Per the local law one has to have 3 outstanding offenses before the car can be booted. JCPA Reserved Parking spots have the same law.

Jersey City in the past has admitted to illegal booting but has not taken any action in regards to that. JCPA is outsourced so someone in the government is making good money under the table.

Here's the wording on the current Parking Permit Application:

PERMIT REQUIREMENTS AND RESTRICTIONS

PLACEMENT OF PERMIT: Your Zone or Temporary Permit must be placed on the inside of the rear windshield, lower left

? Zone and Temporary Permits are to be used only for the vehicle and zone they are issued for; any vehicle can

park in any zone for 2 hours, but please read all signs before parking.

? Itinerant Permits can be used in any zone citywide.

? When you receive your zone permit you will also be provided with a listing of the streets where you can park

your vehicle. Please read this information carefully.

? Daily Visitors Permits are only valid in Zoned areas; they CANNOT be used in Designated On-Street Reserved

Permit Areas (Monthly Permits are required in these locations)

? Zone, Temporary and Itinerant permits CANNOT be used in Designated On-Street Reserved Permit Areas

? The ON-STREET RESERVED areas are as follows:

o Christopher Columbus Drive (Marin Blvd to Hudson St)

o Hoboken Avenue (Between Oakland and Baldwin Ave)

o Steuben Street (Entire Length)

o Warren Street (Montgomery Street to Morgan Street)

o Washington Street (Montgomery Street to Christopher Columbus Drive)

o Jersey Avenue (South of Grand Street by the JC Medical Center) After 3pm these become metered

parking spaces

? You must purchase a Monthly Permit to park in the On-Street RESERVED areas

? Commercial vehicles such as Taxi?s, buses or livery service vehicles are not eligible for zone permits

? Zone, Temporary and Itinerant permits CANNOT be used in Designated RESIDENT ONLY PARKING ZONES

? ZONE 8 ? NJCU 3PM-9PM Resident Only

? ZONE 11 ? St. Peter?s College 3PM-9PM Resident Only

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

? If you replace your vehicle during a permit year, the original permit must be returned to the Parking Authority

for a transfer to your new vehicle. If you do not return the original permit, it will be voided and you will be

"First time booting"
Reserved Parking does not follow other JC zone permit rules. And it will occur if you park in Zone 3 (Essex Street) as well; these spaces are strictly permit, residents of that street only - and they will boot immediately and also ticket.

Do you move to Steuben Street? Very strict attention is given to any roads with "Reserved Parking" signs. They don't seem to have the same rules as regular zone permit parking. Booting is done immediately - kind of like stealing a car without moving it.

It is my responsibility to clean after the JCIA truck?

Really?! If the trash receptacle is in front of your property - you have every right to call and complain twice a week to get it cleaned up by them or the vendor who is hired to empty trash bin.
But if trash blows in "your" sidewalk area or if an inconsiderate person throws trash down on the sidewalk in front of your property you seemed to have the burden of cleaning it up according to municipal codes.

Ok, let me translate this into plain English.

1. We have an Incinerator Authority.

2. The aforementioned authority now lists its tasks as: Collection and Disposal of Residential Solid Waste and Recycling Materials, Property Maintenance, Graffiti Removal, Mechanical Street Sweeping, Demolition, Environmental Compliance, Community and Private Container Services, Snow Plowing and Removal, the Car Pound and Environmental Education Services.

3. Somehow they don't do a good job picking up the garbage.

4. We do not fire them. We do not outsource this job to someone else.

5. We declare that picking up garbage is now a Campaign.

6. This Campaign hires a secondary group of people to do the job that we already given to the IA and paid for.

Nice.

I presume the next step will be a "War on Garbage", and we will create few more organizations charged with the task.

I find a complaint/work order to the "Mayor's Action Bureau" aka, Resident Response Center, has always found a way to eventually get the weeds trimmed. With enough continuous complaints to the city, the property owners start to keep things trimmed on their own and save the cost of forking over money to the city when they cleaned it.

The good electric drip maker is a Technivorm Moccamaster (probably a KBT-741).

The espresso grinder is a Mazzer Mini; But the fancy new addition to the household is the magical automatic weighing grinder, the Baratza Vario-W.

Peets beans shipped every other week.

200 Greene Street, east of Powerhouse and Trump Plaza. 1276 units.
I've read 66 stories. Bay Street will be extended to Hudson Street. Construction was said to start in 2013. Yay! More parking garages with towers on top!

Re: Downtown JC Ticket Frenzy

Warren and Bay is tricky... you can't park in the "T-Zone" so space in the north east corner of Warren Street intersection (at Bay) is actually in the intersection. Stupid rule (no cross walk at this crossing) and the signs could be better placed with arrows pointing where you can start parking at the corner would help clear up confusion. Enforcement is spotty for this rule, not many intersections "jog" like at Bay and Morgan and Warren Streets.

This is Hoboken's interpretation of the new rule. Jersey City might do it differently. We have looked at the intersections in our neighborhood and are proposing to the city which streets best suit the new legislation.

2.A municipality may mandate by ordinance the permissible distance a person may park a motor vehicle from a crosswalk, side line of a street or intersecting highway, or "stop" sign. Tender Shoot on Newark Ave usually has them but as with some of their produce, you have to make sure it isn't rotting already.

Maybe also try the grocer on Grove and First (I think it's First St, across from the soul food restaurant).

Spanish Grocer is on corner of Bay and Grove, not First. I'm pretty sure I've seen poblano peppers in their producer section.

There's a ice cream truck parked practically in the crosswalk on Washington Blvd across medium from PATH station and entrance to Mall for hours - at all hours of the day/evening. Nowhere near a playground or park. Cars drive by it constantly as they go through the intersection when light goes green (3 lanes travelling south) - no one ever stops.
Does the lane closest to food truck, I mean Ice Cream Truck, have to stop and the other two lanes as normal?

No demo - that's what the owner wanted to do (but the city didn't.) So he is finally selling.
Butler Brothers will be as is. I heard, but not confirmed that they plan on making the windows larger, but that will be the extent of the changes. Obviously they will have to make drastic alterations to the ground level to make it approachable from all three sides. I can't wait for the basement to be cleaned out - it seems to be filled with water from Superstorm Sandy.
No timeline known by me, but completion of the sale is the first step.

And it will be rental.

Phase One Provost Square (Marin/Morgan corner) will be rental.
Either Phase Two (Morgan/Warren corner) or Phase Three (Bay/Provost/Marin) might be condos, but they are a few years away from completion. "Work-force" housing (phase four?) will eventually go up at Marin and Bay next to Powerhouse Lounge.
