Also, I am not yacht expert, but 2 of the biggest yachts I have ever seen are parked right in the Newport Marina right across from the Westin. These things aren't as big as that blue one, but they are some big-ass boats. I was checking them out today.

If anyone is out of work and in need of cash, just go to a busy intersection with a bright orange shirt, and bright orange flag and help people cross the streets. Keep a tip jar with you and maybe make some money on tips. you could be like an indie crossing guard, that is of course, until you get robbed....

Oh I see. I misunderstood. I thought someone was saying it was in the journal.

I saw what was going on that night, and I checked the papers myself, and on jclist and I found nothing until i saw this thread a couple days after the fact. There certainly were enough cops there to think something pretty bad had happened.

Can someone post the link to the Jersey Journal story? I cannot find it.

Anyhow, I happened to encounter the several police cars at the store that night.

Could it be that there is more to the story than an armed robbery? Has anyone ever shopped at that store? I don't want to pass any judgment, but let's just say that I think that place was a little bit "different." In other words, I am not really surprised....no matter what neighborhood it is in.

I looked at the schedules for the ACES train...and that thing takes way too long for not making any stops. Why in the heck would it take almost 3 hours????????????????????????????????????????????

That's not convenient at all. So you're not getting home until 5am? Why not just stay overnight, and park for free. So long as you're not going alone, and you can split on gas/tolls. Does this train drive 25 miles per hour?

Sidewalk Tree Bed Fencing ideas
#97
Just can't stay away
Just can't stay away

I have one of those city trees that they planted and I really want to put a nice sturdy fence around it to discourage people throwing trash and dog poop in it. I know it won't prevent it, but i think it will discourage it, and it will look nicer. I can put some plants in there as well. Does anyone know where I can get these fences? I don't want to pay a high price to have something fancy from an artist or get ripped of at 14th street, no thanks. Just something simple. I have seen some good looped iron looking ones near the corner on 5th near erie.

Do you know you can get to Liberty State park by taking Jersey Ave all the way to the end there by the lightrail and that rocky lot? There's a bridge that goes into the park....it beats driving all the way down pacific.

I wasn't sure about Healy, but when I started seeing that Obama crap, I really knew I wasn't going to vote for him. Please....

Wouldn't change be if we had a change in office anyway? Isn't that what Obama's platform was all about? New administration?

Actually Mayor Healy has hired the Hells Angels to guard the streets of Jersey City. Please be thankful, as Hamilton Park will be much safer now. It's a part of his "change" campaign. He and Obama are going to change the world.

Re: Jersey City/local Dentist/Invisalign recommendations

Just can't stay away

I took the many recommendations for Dr. Lustiger and went for my first visit yesterday. The staff was very nice, as was Dr. Lustiger The computerized x-rays are cool. He will be redoing a filling I had done previously, because it was not sculpted correctly around the tooth, and I trust him because I could see it in the x-ray. haha. Anyways, this was a useful thread, and I feel much better about my new dentist.

On a side note, the floor the office is located at, at 1 exchange place is creepy. It seems as though that office is the only one left in the building other than the 1st floor lobbey. I felt like I was walking through a fun house.

Re: Good Retail Location in Downtown JC

Newark, Brunswick, Jersey, grove or monmouth all would be great locations. It's going to be hard with the current economy, but in time Newark Ave will improve drastically. The new streetscape is going to make people actually want to walk down Newark. It would probably be wise to get in on a lease now in one of those dumpy 99 cent store fronts, cross your fingers hoping that Newark Ave has a a renaissance, and the economy bounces back and you may be happy you did it a few years from now. Just be prepared to have a rough year or two. If you are prepared, then I say go for it. I'm hoping to do the same thing...just don't have a good business idea yet.

Re: Illegal Dumping on Corner of Monmouth and 4th

Just can't stay away

It is funny because I have been so angry about trash in this neighborhood for so long, and have even swept trash out of those gutters and water drains at that corner many times myself, that it is funny to me that at least they put the bags near those green bags. They are getting a step closer to throwing things out the right way. Hey, I mean....it was in a bag right, and not blowing around and onto my property or yours? It is disgusting, I agree, but I find it hard not to laugh sometimes at the culture of some of these people that throw trash on the ground everywhere and right in front of me sometimes.

A few weeks ago a guy threw a pizza plate on the ground in front of my house and I told him to pick it up. He said, "you talkin' sh--?" I have to laugh about it now...or else I will end up getting in a fight , and wind up dead.

Those green bags are actually left there by people who clean up and sweep the streets. I forget the name of the oranization, but a crew of like 10 people come down the street picking up trash once or twice a month and they are instructed to leave the bags on the corner and the city I guess is supposed to pick them up. This past time, they sat there for a while. I guess the city workers forgot to come by. I thought it was funny because people started throwing their trash on top of the closed bags. Nothing frustrates me more than litter in this particular neighborhood.

Re: Neighborhood Menace

Just can't stay away

It would help if you told us where you live. Most neihgborhoods have town watches. Mine has at least 2. I have problems in my neighborhood sometimes.

Firstly, one of the many reasons that nothing ever gets done is because the residents are afraid to do anything about it. Make sure you always call the police. Encourage your neighbors to call as well. They don't always do anything...but they do take notice. Chances are, other people are also experiencing the same thing, and also many of your neighbors probably read this message board. But, you should be more specific so we know what you are talking about.

Re: Salon X
Just can't stay away
Just can't stay away

I go to Salon X, and I like it.

Sometimes I feel like $40 is a lot for a guy's haircut, but you know what, I only go about 4-5 times a year. I am willing to pay $200-$300 a year for how I LOOK. I don't spend a lot on clothes, and I don't own a car, so I am all for spending a few extra bucks for a haircut. I have sort of longer hair, and I don't always trust a men's barber to give me a cut that doesn't look like a bowl cut or worse.

If you were lucky enough to find a guy in the mall that you trust, that's awesome. I have never been that lucky, so $40 it is!

Love it. It is by far my favorite delivery restaurant in Jersey City. I have it on speed dial. They have me on speed dial, too which is cool. They save your address, and match it to your phone number so it's an easy transaction.

Their margherita pizza is great, and the wings are tastey, although sometimes they are wimpy in size. Oh yeah, and try their empanadas...and cheeseburgers. Very good, and consistent. That's the key word here....something many other JC restaurants lack.
