Re: City Announces Rent and Utility Assistance

Great letter in the NJ.com site today Yvonne.

Truly tells it like it is.

Pity the older homeowners and the working people in Jersey City.

Keep fighting the good fight.

So, is it a possible future scenario that the assistance being given to renters will be withheld from the five thousand property owners behind in their taxes whom Yvonne is speaking of in an earlier post?

So, worst possible case: tax sales of those properties to voracious real estate investors, tear downs and more uglification of Jersey City?

It may retain the name Jersey City, but will never be anything like the city I was born into.
Greed is now shaping the environment like it never has before in the city's history.
It's a shame what is happening to long time residents. In speaking with someone who runs a food pantry in the Van Vorst area I was shocked when he told me how many older city residents are on line for food stuffs.

So then, the landlords (or owners) don't take any interest in the property's surrounding either?

The filth just accumulates and no one makes an effort to remove it?

Street and sidewalk condition

I don't really know where the blame lays, but in walking through a variety of downtown neighborhoods yesterday evening the general slovenliness of streets and sidewalks was very noticeable.
All of these expensive properties: aren't people who live in them upset enough to pick up a broom each day and do a little cleaning up of the front of their homes? I understand that it's a thankless task when the people responsible for the trash have irresponsible ways, but in giving up altogether in resignation a filthy environment persists. Filth invites unhealthy living conditions; something we need to think more about in these times.

I think that you'll get more responses at Reddit:

https://www.reddit.com/r/jerseycity/co ... tm9/jc_list_vs_jc_reddit/

There seems to be a more youthful and responsive group there.

Each day there are fewer and fewer threads developed here.

What happened?

If my memory serves me well, there was a particularly despicable person in history (think WW2) who headed a group of other vile people who described a particular people of a religious persuasion as "vermin".
Would the moderator please take a look at this last posting? It goes outside the realm of decent discussion.

Amazon scam

Be careful. There's an Amazon phone scam going around. A caller will tell you that an order has been placed and they'll give you a call back number.
I called Amazon instead and customer service informed me that a scam is in progress. Amazon doesn't call unless you call them. Pass this around.

Large residential projects
Home away from home
Home away from home

While travelling down to Monmouth County yesterday I noticed three large scale residential projects underway on routes 35 & 36. Towns in Middlesex County are also in the process of developing a number of new living areas. Also, clusters have been springing up near rail stops--particularly large ones in Rahway and Avenel. Anyone like to venture an assessment of what these growth spurts are about?

I've got to go along with JC Guys for the most part.
Journalists should report the news. There are so many other career choices for those who want to bring the light of goodness into the world. My particular beef with newsapers pressing people to see things their way lies with the editorial page, where the editor gets to proffer his particular visions and desires to the reading public.
What gives them the right to do that, especially in a time when newspapers have seen fit to excise reader's opinions from the pages? Letter writers and comment contributors, in a fair world, should be given the same opportunity as the editor and the journalists. Who made those in the newspaper trade the arbiters of truth or deceit?

As Joe Friday used to intone: "Just the facts Ma'am, just the facts."

We can take it from there thank you.

This is an amazing admission by a a senior executive at the Ledger (nj.com). Desperation is clearly setting in as circulation is in a serious decline.

Take a few minutes to read it:

Little noticed and as well little reported on: In Northern Italy there were 300,000
Chinese--laborers working on the Belt and Road China project. They displaced Italians. When the virus struck guess where the Chinese flocked? Yep--to Italy, and the results were catastrophic as we know.

Here's some background:

Thank you Sutherland. Good link.
Here' where that snippet was taken from:

"Founded in 2001, NTD TV (Not to be confused with Australian NTD (TV station) or New Tang Dynasty Television is a New York-based television broadcaster. According to their about page NTD?s mission is ?At NTD we believe the integrity of our world hinges on the accurate and truthful spreading of information.? NTD TV is founded by a group of Chinese-American Falun Gong practitioners which supports social conservatism, segregated paradises and anti-communism according to RationalWiki. The Wall Street Journal states that Falun Gong also founded the Epoch Times. However, a SF Gate article suggests that Executives at the Epoch Times, New Tang Dynasty and Sound of Hope deny they represent the movement. The Chinese Government considers the movement a cult and they state ?NTD.TV claims to be an independent public media organization serving Chinese people all over the world. But, in essence, it is a mouthpiece of ?Falun Gong? in cult and anti-China propaganda.?

NTD TV?s primary focus topics are news, cultural shows, educational programs, sports and entertainment."

..........................

It appears the Chinese government doesn't appreciate their efforts.

I think the article points to the beginnings of a tsunami which will engulf the whole economic climate.
Today I watched an interview with the new CEO of IBM. He was thrilled with the fact that ninety-five percent of IBM's workforce were no longer, figuratively speaking, at their desks.
The global mishandling of this crisis--the shutting down of the world's business economy -- will allow a view and a way into a world that was probably years away, but is now on our doorstep: Buildings housing a workforce are now so old school. Can the current workforce be viewed as necessary? What right thinking corporate head is not going to look to cut costs by not building brick and mortar housing or renegotiating lease arrangements?
Business are being run in a totally new way. The Geek Squad is lighting the way to major changes. When commuting ceases by a large margin the auto and energy industries will be impacted. Business reliant on centers of economic activity (food, entertainments, clothing etc.) will be hurt and so on and so on.
What will the inevitable end turn out to be?--a socialist state.
Bernie--they stuck it to you again. it must hurt a little more this time if you can read the tea leaves.

I wonder, if when the response to this bio menace is examined under a more reasoned framework if it'll be determined that the subway system in NYC and NJ should have been shut down. I can't help but think that in those first weeks when the seriousness of the virus was recognized and measures were adapted, why weren't the rails shut down? Passengers travelled through all of the boroughs and into various New Jersey locations bringing the bug home to families. friends and neighbors.
Conclusions will have to be drawn in the light of cold reason.
